Hello ,
I went for a early scan due to some very light spotting which I did experience in my first pregnancy (my little girl is now 2)
They did an internal scan and explained that at the time they could only see a sac at the time but nothing in there .
I didn't have much explained to me , but she said to come back in 2 weeks .
I know that I ovulated quite late 18th day of my cycle as I used a ovulation stick.
I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this ?
Thanks in advance

@EVE21 I’ve just made a similar post when I came across yours. I’ve had 3 mc last year within 7 months of each other. I expressed my worry to my GP and he went ahead and booked a scan at the EPU for yesterday. I told him I wasn’t 6 weeks till Monday, but he said was all fine.

I had the scan and the ultrasound ladies silence makes me sick, even tho she told me she would be silent. She said she could see a sac, but nothing within the sac. So couldn’t confirm if it was a gestational sac or not. I then waited 2 hours to see a consultant who said she thinks it’s way to early and she thinks the sac could be filled with fluid, along with it being to early. So I’m back next Friday for another scan and I’ll be 6 weeks 4 days. And it’s going to be the longest wait. I’ve been awake since 4am sick with worry.

Sending my love to you x

Hi OP, I experienced the same thing in October 2019. I had quite a few scans to confirm it was empty, I had to wait for the sac to get to a certain size with no contents for them to diagnose a blighted ovum. My HCG levels were v high so I had a laparoscopy to check for an ectopic too.

There is also a chance that it's just too early to see anything and unfortunately all you can do is just watch and wait which is horrible sad

Sending you lots of love

EVE21 Sat 20-Feb-21 11:10:55

Thank you both for your posts .
Gosh the wait is horrible isn't it .

I had this too a couple of weeks ago. I went back for a scan (two weeks later) and embryo was there. I'd ovulated late so the first scan was too early to see anything but sack. I hope the same for you. Best wishes

I had this, plus some bleeding. It was just too early. I went back after 10 days and there was a heartbeat.

Hi @EVE21 not me but something similar has been posted on this thread so you may be able to chat to the other OP over here and share your worries smile

3 miscarriages in a row. Waiting on miscarriage clinic appointment http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/4145681-3-miscarriages-in-a-row-Waiting-on-miscarriage-clinic-appointment

I have heard before that this is common when it's so early and that a couple of weeks will give you a better idea

I have everything crossed for you thanks

TJ17 Sat 20-Feb-21 11:29:31

Just realised you need to read to end of OPs posts to get to the stage she's at now which is similar to you

MollySxx Sat 20-Feb-21 11:50:03

@TJ17 this is me, I’m the OP of that post x

TJ17 Sat 20-Feb-21 11:51:16

In ffs I'm so sorry 🤦🏼‍♀️😅 i thought oh the stories are so similar maybe they could help each other! Didn't even think to look at the name 🤦🏼‍♀️

Well I feel like a tw*t grin

MollySxx Sat 20-Feb-21 11:56:34

@TJ17 we can still help each other now we have this as common ground. Keeps @EVE21 going through 177 comments😂

TJ17 Sat 20-Feb-21 11:58:32

Yeah I'm glad you found your way over here haha hopefully you will both eventually have good news and be able to start up a new "due" thread soon 🤗

Lolajames Sat 20-Feb-21 11:59:46

Sending lots of love it's such a hard wait.

Just keep in mind the ovulation sticks indicate ovulation is coming they don't confirm when you actually ovulated. Temperature rise is what confirms this so although you may have got a peak on your test - your body could have taken a wee bit longer to actually ovulate.

Keeping everything crossed for you x

I had this exact thing just over 2 weeks ago. Went to EPU at 6 weeks due to cramping and all they could see was an empty gestational sac, no yolk sac, no embryo.

The nurse I spoke to after was very unhelpful and kept talking about miscarriage but then contradicting herself saying she couldn't tell me which way it would go.

I was so distressed and convinced myself I had lost it, particularly as had some spotting as well. I ended up paying for a private scan 10 days later as I couldn't bear the thought of my partner not being with me when I got the news. Fortunately the scan showed a healthy yolk sac and embryo complete with a heartbeat and measured me at 8 weeks. I had my repeat scan at EPU yesterday which confirmed the pregancy and my dates.

For me, it really was just too early and that was at 6 weeks. The sonographer told me so many factors can make a difference to imaging that early on.

It really was the hardest 2 weeks of my lie and I feel for anyone in this position. My advice would be this:
- don't Google or read too much on here about blighted ovum or miscarriage as you will convince yourself that is what you have
- accept that worrying about it will not change the outcome. If you are going to miscarry there is nothing you can do, read or say that will change that. The worrying will just drive you insane and will ruin your day to day life
- try and keep busy. Distract yourself.

I know it's easy for me to say don't worry now but I have just been through this and once I'd accepted that whatever will be will be then I felt better.

It really does sound like you had a scan at a very early stage so try not to assume the worst. I kept telling myself that if anyone got scanned at 5 or so weeks then they probably wouldn't see anything. There is a reason they do not routinely scan that early and this is exactly it.

Keep us posted OP. Will keep everything crossed for you x

Mother2princess Sat 20-Feb-21 16:21:11

I had this and it wasn't good news I had a blighted ovum

I did however go on to conceive within weeks after passing that pregnancy and now pregnant with a healthy baby at 28 weeks

MollySxx Sat 20-Feb-21 16:24:56

@Mother2princess when did you have your first scan? I’m having the same issue, like my first miscarriage in April, but I was further along, I was 8 weeks when this happened and I started bleeding at 9 weeks. I had an internal yesterday where I class myself as 5 weeks+4 since my last LMP and they saw a gestation sac, but nothing within the sac. So they couldn’t confirm. I’m due back next week when I’ll be 6+4. I’m worried sick

Anniemac42 Sat 20-Feb-21 16:33:08

Had blighted ovium which didnt end well in my mid 20s and now in my 40s i had a miscarrage at 3 months ans 1 day... Im going to keep trying as im healthy i know my age is against me but i hear of lots of 40+ ladies having healthy pregnancys/babies too... keep the faith 🤞

Makingnumber2 Sun 21-Feb-21 15:37:44

@EVE21 I've just been for an early scan this morning and experienced the same thing as you. I've been crying all morning and feel sick with worry. By my LMP date I'm 6w3d and there was a sac 13mm but nothing in it- also was using OPKs and tracking cycle etc so pretty sure dates are accurate. They've booked me in for 12 days time for a re-scan and I don't know how I am going to get through this period of time. Especially with lockdown meaning activities for distractions will be limited. Sorry you're going through the same thing- hoping this waiting period will pass quickly for us both.

Anniemac42 Mon 22-Feb-21 09:47:56

@EVE21 🤞🤞 you need to be open minded for your own sanity xxxx if all good amazing if not like me try again .... 🤞🤞

AnnaE89 Mon 22-Feb-21 11:27:42

I'm in a similar position, had light bleeding early last week and an internal scan showed an empty sac. They tested hCG levels over 48 hours and they were rising normally so the nurse thinks my dates might just be off (I'd just come off the pill after 10 years so don't know my cycle).

I have another scan this Friday when they think it should be around 6 weeks and I'm so nervous! I also have no pregnancy symptoms at all which is making me worried.

Makingnumber2 Mon 22-Feb-21 20:08:21

@AnnaE89 I really hope your scan on Friday goes well and gives you the reassurances you want and need. Will be keeping my fingers crossed for you- let us know how you get on.

EVE21 Wed 24-Feb-21 15:54:01

Oh wow @EVE21 that is such wonderful news! So happy for you! What have they dated you as?
Thank you for updating- so many threads (and I've been trawling the net since my scan Sunday) don't have updates on- so it's so helpful to have one!!
I hope you continue to have a healthy and happy pregnancy smile

Makingnumber2 Wed 24-Feb-21 16:19:51

Also do you know what your sac measured at your first scan and what it measures now? Don't worry if you don't want to share.

EVE21 Wed 24-Feb-21 18:20:04

So I'm dating 7 weeks 4 days now .
I don't know what my sac was measuring on the first scan sorry.
When is your scan now ?
