Pregnancy

36 weeks and baby is ‘quiet’ today

I normally feel him first thing in the morning when I wake up but I haven’t this morning. I came downstairs and had a coffee (that usually makes him move) he moved slightly (flutters but not as strong as normal) I’ve had a lie down on my left side as this usually gets him moving too but no movement. Is it normal to have ‘quiet’ days? I’ve had 3 growth scans so far and at each scan he has slightly dropped. He started on the 90th percentile and he’s now on the 50th. The doctor wasn’t overly concerned but I have to go back in 12 days for another scan and she said depending on the result of the scan I may need to be induced a little earlier. I will phone triage but I feel a bit silly doing so considering I have had a few fluttersConfused

No it isn’t normal for movement to slow down towards the end. That’s a common misconception that midwives are trying to eradicate ! Give them a call xx

I'd ring EPU and see a midwife ASAP.

Even if its nothing, you'll feel better after knowing.

Movements should not really stop at this stage. Go see someone if you can please.

Definitely call them. The advice is to call for reduced movements not no movements and yours have reduced so don'tfeel silly at all. Best to be checked!

Absolutely go in to be checked.
I did have some quieter days as baby changed position but I was checked every single time.
You should never assume, a decrease can indicate an issue that they can sort before the worst happens. Waiting for no movement is too late.

Do not ever feel silly for phoning and getting checked out. Once a midwife told me they'd rather check someone without any issues out a hundred times than miss it that one time when there's a problem. That's what they are there for OP. Any change in the pattern of movements should be phoned in anyway, not just when there's no movement so please ring. Better to be safe. Good luck Thanks

Please get it checked OP, don't feel silly for calling them, they will be happy to help Flowers

Definitely get checked. I had this at about the same time (midwife couldn't find a heartbeat) and it was just the way he was lying and possibly he was spending stretches sleeping but they put a trace on me for a couple of hours. I also used to find a cold drink or something sweet he would move a lot afterwards.

Thanks everyone, I’ve phoned and I’m going in once my partner arrives home from work. I’ve since had a few little flutters but nothing like I normally do. Thanks again and I will updateSmile

I had similar when similarly pregnant, I was worried sick. Obviously the minute I was hooked up to the monitor he started to really go for it...!

Definitely worth going in - and no one made me feel silly for doing so even though they were really busy

I do have a feeling the moment I get there he’s going to make a fool of meGrin (well I hope so!) But I know it’s best to double check. I don’t think it’s helping that my growth scans aren’t completely 100%

Exactly the same here with DC2 at about 36 weeks. Hopefully everything is fine x

Glad you're going in to get checked OP, it is always, always, always worth it just in case.

While you're waiting to go in and get checked, drink a big glass of really cold water. If I was ever a bit worried about movement, I found that a cold drink shifted the baby. Keep your appointment though, just to be safe.

I went in twice for reduced movements during pregnancy (the second time he moved 10 times in an hour, the midwives said he was fine but that was a very quiet day!).

Both times they made sure to reassure me that I had done the right thing, they much prefer checking on healthy babies than potentially missing one in trouble.

They would always rather you go in and it be a false alarm rather than sitting at home not wanting to bother anyone and something bad happens.

Best outcome? Baby does make you feel like a fool, but you can laugh about that Smile

I hope everything is fine. Definitely don't feel silly, you're not wasting their time and you should definitely get checked. My LO was really quiet last Sunday evening - I ended up going in at about 10pm after he'd barely moved after dinner instead of the usual somersaults. Thankfully everything was fine. He then had a pretty quiet week compared to normal. When I saw the midwife for a routine visit at the end of the week she told me off and said I should've gone back on Monday and Tuesday etc if the movements were still reduced - every day is a new day and if the movements aren't normal for your baby you should get checked. He's back to his normal ways now thankfully. Glad you're getting seen and good luck!

Thanks everyone. I’ve been on the monitor and it has only picked up 2 movements and apparently a load of regular tightenings. I’m just waiting to see a doctor thanks for all your replies x
