Hello and Happy Tuesday smile

I don't know why but all of a sudden I have extreme anxiety over my 20 week scan, this isn't taking place until mid February when I will be 21.5 weeks, but I just can't stop thinking about it.

I'm 15w 5d and I have a private scan booked to find out the gender on Saturday but I can't bring myself to "publicly announce" my pregnancy in case something is wrong at the 20 week scan.

Is it "normal" to feel like this? My brain keeps doing overtime and I keep questioning myself if the reason I'm not going public with my pregnancy is because deep down I know something is wrong, but that's impossible, I can't "know" anything yet, and up until now everything has been OK.

Sorry for the rant, I just wondered if others are feeling like this too..

Omg I’m the exact same!
I’ve told my close friends and family but I haven’t made it “public” yet, my 20 week scan is on 25th January and I’m sooooo nervous. We had a private gender scan and found out we’re having a baby girl which I’m so excited about but again I want to wait until they confirm that at the 20 week scan. Before I was pregnant I was never an anxious person but since finding out I’ve been a nightmare, I feel like I have to have everything confirmed twice before I believe it as wellconfused xx

I felt like this too, it is a really stressful time.

I also had a 16 week scan and felt much better after I’d seen the baby again and felt like it was actually happening once I knew the gender. Before that I couldn’t quite believe I was actually going to have a baby.

A private gender scan obviously doesn’t go into as much detail as the 20 week anomaly scan, but if there was something seriously wrong I think it would be picked up and they’d have to tell you.

I'm 15+6 today and gender scan Saturday too. I hated the 20 week scan last time and I'm already building it up in my head this time. Odds are in your favour too.

Totally normal! I didn't tell anyone until after 20wk scan and only just bought my first baby stuff yesterday at 28wks because I'm still sure something will go wrong. I'm sure everything will be fine at your scan (I can be optimistic for you!) but normal to worry!

I didn't publicly announce anything with This current pregnancy until about 24 weeks - I had several miscarriages previously so wanted to wait until we were at the medical intervention cut off when they would intervene to save the babies if something went wrong

@Alexandrababy1 Congratulations, a little girl - how wonderful smile I think pregnancy has a way of making us all SO anxious, I mean it's hardly surprising, we are growing a little life inside of us and our only way of checking everything is OK are at the ultrasounds. Let me know how your 20 week scan goes, good luck smile x x

@JemimaTiggywinkle Yes, I'm hopeful that if there was anything concerning I would be told at Gender scan, I know they aren't medical experts but I'm sure they have a duty of care to let you know / refer you smile

@3rdtimelucky2019 Congratulations! It's such an anxious time isn't it, I love MumsNet but I sometimes get carried away in some of the threads, read things I knew nothing about and I don't think that helps as it puts my mind into overdrive lol. Do you have a boy / girl preference? smile

@Mimba1 Congratulations to you smile Over half way, how exciting smile I'm glad it's "normal" to worry, I think people are right on here when they post saying you think you're 12 week scan will stop the anxiety when in fact it's just the start ha ha.

@ivfbeenbusy I'm really sorry to hear about your previous miscarriages flowers congratulations on this pregnancy smile I think I am going to wait until 20 week scan, well in my case 21.5 weeks. It's crazy because so many people announce it at 12 weeks and I must admit until MumsNet and reading different threads it never ever crossed my mind to wait until the 20 week scan xx

No preference. I have a one year old DS but healthy is a blessing.

We told family and a few friends, but only did the facebook announcement thing after the 20wk scan.

Alexandrababy1 Tue 12-Jan-21 19:24:06

@Vogue1992 yeah exactly! I’ll let you know how it goes, you’ll have to let us know when you have your gender scan what you’re having!
Do you have a preference? I didn’t mind but my boyfriend really wanted a girl so hopefully she’s still a girl at the 20 week scan haha! Xx

@JustAnotherUserinParadise that’s what I’ve done too! I’m really excited to finally announce it after my 20 week scan!xx
