How accurate have your growth scans been?

Hi, I had a private growth scan today at 32 weeks +3 and the baby is measuring at a hefty 4lb15 already and I'm now pretty terrified of how much she might continue to grow over the next 8 weeks +.

The head was on 88%, tummy on 66% and legs on 77%

Just wondering how accurate other people have found these to be compared to birth weights?

My friend had a growth scan at 38 weeks and was told she was having a massive 11-12lb baby which scared her a lot! In the end the baby was 9lb, so a big baby but nothing like the massive one she was expecting. I think they can be quite inaccurate.

They’re not accurate at all. My first baby “measured” 2.4kg at 37 weeks exactly (30th centile), she was born at 38 +4 weighing 2.35kg (below 1st centile)!

My scans had her on the curve to be 7lb 3oz. A week before she was born they said they expected about 6lbs 9oz. She was born by emergency c section at 5lbs 11oz.

They measured mine at 6lb three days before she was born weighing 7.7lb!

I had numerous ones with my DS and he was as predicted.

I had four, all roughly around 80th centile. Had one at 40+3, stayed with the previous trend of a bigger baby. She was born 7 days later 10th centile, 2lb smaller than the scan had predicted🤷🏼‍♀️

LB popped out as expected and had measured on the same line throughout (NHS growth scans).

I had a scan and my lb was estimated 6lb 4 at that time, I had him the day after and he was 6lb 3

I was also wondering this! I've just had a growth scan at 33+ 2 and my baby is measuring 4lbs which they are telling me is very small & starting to suggest an early induction. But I'm not fully comfortable agreeing to an induction if In fact their measurements are not accurate!

I have had 3 growth scans (every 2 weeks) she is following her own curve just small. Did anyone find when they had more than one growth scan the readings were more accurate ?

My last baby they said would be 9lbs 1oz was 8lbs 13oz so a bit over on the estimate. This time I've had a scan at 32w exactly and estimated weight was 4lbs 4oz so apparently on track for another high 8lbs to low 9lbs baby which is what I would expect now anyway.

I had 6 growth scans due to diabetes and baby being on smaller side. Last growth scan at 38wks showed her to have grown towards average and measured 6lb11oz. Baby girl born 39+1 weighing 7lb3oz so I think my growth scans were accurate.

I was given extra scans because my bump was small. I was then told baby was over 9lbs at 36 weeks. I was terrified. He arrived naturally 15 days late.... and was 8lbs7oz! I've actually don't know anyone who's had an accurate growth scan!

I really wish they'd forget these growth scans. I had 3 which indicted my baby was huge, by 38 weeks they said she'd be over 10lbs and they induced me and said I'd likely need a csection. She was born 8.3lbs vaginally... Literally no need to induce me.

They estimated my DS to be 6lb 14oz at 38 weeks he was born at 39+5 weighing 6lb 11oz when by that stage he should have been nearly 7lb 12oz by their estimates so they were out by a pound, I've had growth scans in all 4 of my pregnancies and every time the baby has been smaller by a pound at birth but I was told by my consultant that the sacns aren't accurate and can be out either way by up to a pound so take the weight with a pinch of salt x

I had a scan at 35+6 which said baby was 6lb 15oz. Said baby was born at 37+1 weighing 7lb 5oz. So the growth scan was pretty much bang on for me.

I am in exactly the same boat, @Cocoben. My baby was just above average and in my last couple of scans swung into the realm of "macrasomic" - I've even been asked to take part in a 'big baby' study. She's above 97th pc for AC, and +95 pc for size: we're now expecting a little hulk baby. They've scared me with big baby birth stories so I'm now booked in for a somewhat reluctant c-section in a couple of weeks, unless she decides to come earlier.

My bump doesn't look so huge to me; my partner and I are hopeful she won't be the whopper they're predicting since scans can be off. I just want her to be healthy: it's a shock when you hear baby is so big. I keep being asked if I've been tested for gestational diabetes but I have and it was negative. I will definitely be reporting back on her size once we know.

With my dd they said she was measuring small and would be about 6lb, she was 5lb 10oz at 37 weeks so not far off. They said ds would be a good size, he was 8lb 10oz at 40 weeks. So for me fairly accurate.
