Hi everyone,

Just wanted a bit of a hand hold really. I’ll be 14 weeks pregnant this week. I had a massive bleed on Sunday and was convinced I had miscarried. Was scanned at hospital and the baby had a heartbeat and was moving around! I was so relieved to see it but I’m now absolutely terrified. I’ve been under huge stress recently (work and moving house) and I was blaming myself on Sunday night. I can’t stop reliving it...the blood was pouring out me, I’ve never ever experienced that, with all the years of periods! When I try and speak to my family and DH about my worries, I’m told that stress isn’t good for the baby and I’m just not taken seriously. I know stress isn’t good for the baby but I’m absolutely terrified now. I wanted to go for a private scan in 1/2 weeks just for reassurance but when I mentioned it, I just felt totally stupid for even suggesting it. We have booked a gender scan on Christmas Eve and I’m terrified there will be no heartbeat. Just looking for a bit of advice really. Does anyone else have fears like this? Xx

Flowers that sounds terrifying.
Did they find the cause of the bleed?
You really need to take it easy and rest.
I think sometimes people and partners don't realise how helpless and worried we can feel when it comes to pregnancy. They just don't understand and probably mean well by saying you need not to stress. But obviously doesn't help at all. Truth is they can't do anything and don't know what else to say. I guess they want you to stay positive.
Your baby was ok despite the bleed, so hang on to that for now.
You could definitely go for a scan in a week to put your mind at ease. Not stupid at all. Xmas eve is a long way if you are very anxious.
How is your bleeding now?

@SunnySideUp2020 it really was and DH wasn’t with me at the time so I had to go alone to the hospital. They didn’t know why I was bleeding but the doctor thought my placenta is low. She wasn’t fully trained in that though so she couldn’t say for certain that’s what it is.
You’re right. My family are trying to keep me staying positive but I just feel so stupid when I say anything!
I’m running to check if I’m bleeding constantly and I’m even dreaming about it. Just can’t get over it at all. I’m off work this week though so will rest up. Will definitely book the scan though! Thanks for replying, it means a lot xx

@SunnySideUp2020 sorry meant to add! The bleeding has more or less stopped and it’s brown now when I wiped. Good signs, I know! Need to stay hopeful but finding it difficult.

Sorry you're going through this OP. I had bleeding the day I turned 14 weeks and totally panicked too. Cried solidly for days, but all seems fine now. I've heard SO many examples of women bleeding really heavily throughout pregnancy, often for no known reason, and having healthy bouncy babies. Hopefully you will feel kicks in the next 4 or 5 weeks and at that stage will have a bit more daily reassurance. I think the 12-20 week period is often the hardest because without having a window to look into and see baby, lots of symptoms go and there's not a whole lot of signs of baby yet that we can check on. You've got this mama, but do have a scan if you think you'd feel calmer for it. Flowers

Hi OP. I had this exact same thing. Two massive bleeds, a week apart, unlike any period I'd had in the past at all as it was so heavy and sudden.

I was absolutely convinced both times I had miscarried, yet both times had a scan which showed baby moving and a heartbeat. Such a shock as I never had anything like that in my first pregnancy. That was at 12 and 13 weeks. I'm now 19 weeks and I've had brown bleeding since then.

The midwife sent me to be checked after the bleeding (brown and very light but always there every day) didn't stop and they told me at that scan that I had a low lying placenta. I have my 20 week scan next week and while I'm nervous, I do think things will be okay after reading about low lying placentas online.

It's really worrying but there is nothing you can do but wait (torture I know). Fingers crossed for you that all is well.

I'm sorry you had to go through that OP. If you do have a low lying placenta, it's advised that you avoid sexual intercourse and vigorous activity. It's worth just bearing that in mind until you know for sure about your placenta.

Keep your chin up! Bleeding in pregnancy is scary but it is pretty common actually.

Thanks for replying everyone. I’ve booked a scan for next week. So worried though! Although it does seem to be fairly common. Does anyone know if I can have a bath or will this irritate anything? I keep thinking I have blood all over me! X

I wouldn't have a bath if the bleeding hasn't completely stopped as your cervix might still be a little open. I think (from my non medical opinion) that it's best to wait a little.

@SunnySideUp2020 I thought it would be better not to have one! At the scan, she said my cervix was closed but I don’t want to risk anything.
