Moses basket or side sleeper/bedside crib

Hi all

FTM, I was set on getting a Moses basket but now I’m not sure if a side sleeper/bedside crib is will last longer. All the Moses baskets I’ve seen say from birth up until 6 months, whereas the side sleeper/bedside cribs say from birth up until 9kg (so roughly 1 years old).

Due to the layout of our place we don’t really need both, so any advice on which one to go with would be helpful!

Thank you Smile

Our DD is 5 months and has been out of her Moses basket for about 2 months already, waste of time in my experience. Will be going straight to a cot with our next one

All of mine hated the Moses basket and all 3 out grew it by 2-3 months old.

We got a 2nd hand next2me for DS2 (which we also used for DD) they were both in it from birth pretty much. It takes them a while to adjusting to sleep anywhere (my advice read up about 4th trimester!) but the next2me lasted until 7/8 months before going into cot in own room

I've got both. First baby would not sleep more than 20 minutes in the moses basket so we used the chicco next to me. Second baby loves the basket but not the next to me. Her liking the Moses basket has been great as it's portable and I can take it from room to room which you can't do with the next to me. She's two months now and I think she’ll get another 1-2 no the out yhr basket before she’ll have to go in the next to me.

Every baby is different and I'm afraid you don't know what they’ll take to or not until they arrive. If I were you though i’d try and get both second hand and just buy new mattresses, then you have the option.

Some Moses baskets are bigger. I had a schnuggle one and she still fitted in it at 7 months when she moved into her own room

I had a Next to Me and it lasted us until a bit over six months, when the wee bugger pulled himself up on the side and gave us heart failure. He would have been out of the Moses basket at about three months, if he hadn't tipped it over flailing about before hand.

Basically, if you or the other half are tall, don't bother with a Moses basket, they'll be out of it in no time. What I did have and was brilliant, was the rocking cradle that we all had as babies for the living room downstairs. Bit narrower and longer than a next to me style thing and very useful for naps.

We had a normal crib then a normal cot (not cot bed). I hate Moses baskets so no way would I ever have one.

We had a SnuzPod from birth, DD lasted until about 5 months as she got too long and could roll around. Never bothered with a Moses basket. For downstairs she sometimes slept in the pram bassinet.

We didn’t have the space for anything bigger than a Moses basket in our room when I had my first. She was in it for 6 months, but could fit in it until she was 9 months old (she is tiny though despite me and partner being tall). I had to move her into her cot though because she started crawling onto me in the mornings and I was worried she’d fall.
Using a next to me this time round as we need the spare room as an office as long as possible! 😂

I’ve got a second hand (bought a new mattress) beside crib for DD and I really like it. I had a section and I find it much easier to get her out at night time to feed her than I did when I had DS in a Moses basket.

We have a Chico next to me, loved it can just pop ur arm across and baby is right next to you, can see them as the side is down, also helpful if they have reflux as they can be tilted head up and they last a lot longer than a Moses basket

My LO slept better in her Moses basket, I think because it rocked! Is it possible to get a cheap 2nd hand one and just leave it in a corner?

We had a next to me crib, ds could crawl early though and can already pull himself up and launch himself over the top (he’s now almost 7 months). So although he still fits length wise, we had to stop using about a month ago.
So I wouldn’t say it can be used to a year old as it would be dangerous

Moses basket.

My dd then moved into her cot at about 3 months.

We put the moses basket in the cot from day 1 though, just a smaller sleeping space for them, then when we then moved her into the actual cot and in her own room it wasn't really much change for her

I had the Tutti Bambini bedside cot and loved it. We used a Moses basket on a stand for the first few weeks and hated it. I found that when baby made a noise, instead of being able to just open your eyes, you had to fully sit up and check on them. Which is especially annoying after a c-section. With the bedside cribs, the side is open and you can check on them while lying down. X
