Deciding between Moses basket and snuzpod co sleeper

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to sort out where baby will be sleeping during the Black Friday sales so that I can take advantage of offers if possible, but I’m having a lot of trouble deciding what would be best for me and I was hoping for some advice from you all please :)

At first I thought I wanted the snuzpod 3. I like the idea that it can be used as a co sleeper attached to the bed or as a standalone bassinet. I plan to breastfeed so attaching it to the bed seems handy. I like the way you can incline it for if they have reflux. Not sure if you can incline it when it’s attached to the bed but when it’s in standard bassinet mode you can.

However, I’ve read that you’re supposed to be in the same room as the baby when it sleeps before six months, and with the Snuzpod 3, while you can take the bassinet off to use it somewhere else in the house, I’ve heard it’s heavy,

This made me wonder if I should get something like the Mokee Classic Wicker basket (rocking stand so I guess I could put a towel under one end to stabilise it in an incline position like the Snuzpod can for reflux) or the wool nest one (cannot incline I think).

However, we do only have a two bedroom flat, so I would only really be moving the baby from our bedroom to the lounge room really. Which made me wonder if the Snuzpod 3 would be ok since I wouldn’t be carrying it far (although I read it’s too heavy to carry at first if you have a csection). OR I’ve already bought the Uppababy Vista pram so I could have the Snuzpod in the bedroom room and put the baby to sleep in the pram in the lounge room with me if I wanted to sleep in there. Do you think this would be ok?

Or the other option I thought of was getting the stand for the uppababy carrycot and using that for the baby to sleep in all of the time, but that’s over £100 anyway for the stand so maybe it makes sense to just spend the money on something that’s designed for sleeping in more of the time?

The other consideration is I have a three year old show cocker spaniel. She ‘s quite a small dog and would never be left alone with the baby but something fairly sturdy would help with my peace of mind in case she becomes curious about the noises the baby makes or something and goes to have a look. Something she couldn’t accidentally topple over would definitely be a plus and would help with my anxiety levels!

This is my first baby so I don’t really have any experience and would love some input. Thanks in advance :)

I would get a snuzpod and a cheap moses basket for your lounge as i heard they outgrow them quickly...
But i am also doing planning for first baby so this is just an idea and perhaps not the most cost efficient or practical.

I just bought a second hand Moses basket with a stand and bought a new mattress with both of mine. They say it lasts up to 6 months but it’s more likely 3-4 months before they have to move into a cot so it’s really not worth spending a lot of money.

We use the bassinet from the uppababy vista in the living room (bought a regular Moses basket stand so the dirty pram wheels aren't in the house) and it's been great. Bonus has been our little one is used to sleeping in it when we're out and about. We purposefully bought the uppababy as it is vented for overnight sleeping.

In our room we bought tutti bambini cozzee air which stays upstairs.

I am also a ftm due in January. Was a bit bamboozled too about sleeping choices. Not sure if this helps, but I've gone for a Moses basket as a relative has leant me theirs. I've only had to pay £25 for new mattress & sheets. Any excuse to keep the costs down! The bedside cribs look handy but the price was kinda putting me off anyway. I've seen lots of 2nd hand Moses basket too, and they are much easier to move around the house.

We have a chico next to me, and got a non branded one for the living room, I wouldn't bother with a Moses basket as they out grow them very quickly. We will use them both again this time when new baby comes in April. We also found our 1st slept mostly in our arms in the day or in his swing, or when baby is young take baby back to the bed room and both have a wee nap

My baby is 6 weeks, I’ve got both - she flat out refuses to sleep in the Moses basket at night so it’s a blood good job!

I'd definitely go with the Snuzpod. It's much easier for night feeds. My daughter refused to sleep in the Moses basket, but luckily we were given it, just bought a new mattress, which was used twice maybe 🤷‍♀️

It's so difficult to know what your baby will like! During the day she mostly slept on me or on the sling. With my next I'll get a baby moov for day time naps, although still have the Moses and who knows what the next one will like!

My niece outgrew the moses basket in weeks. So I have bought a snuzpod for mine. It's not that heavy. I can easily lift the bassinet off and take it to a different room.

Hey! My wee girl is nearly 4 months and she's been sleeping in a snuzpod. I would really recommend it as it makes night feeds so much easier. They also make a little pocket thing that attaches to the end that I keep changing stuff in so at night and I feed and change her without getting out of bed. We also have the vista and we use the pram for day time naps downstairs. I would say that that should be enough for sleeping items, we never got a Moses basket or anything else.

We’ve got a Tutti Bambini Cozee upstairs and the carrycot for our pram/blanket on the floor/bouncy chair for downstairs.With DC1 we used a baby box downstairs (you used to be able to send off for a free one and just pay postage but not sure if they still do that) but sadly it’s full of teddies now! I think a bedside crib is really useful.

I’ve just got the snuzpod. It is quite bulky / heavy but not so much that you couldn’t move it from one room to another easily enough.

I had both. Snuzpod in the bedroom and a cheap Moses basket downstairs. I found it less faff than carrying the Snuzpod around.

I have a next to me crib, similar to the snuzpod.. it wouldn't be so easy to move around though if you have it open and attached to the bed as it's strapped down to stop it moving away from the bed. I love it and lasts much longer than a Moses.
I also have a Moses basket downstairs but hasn't had much use with either of mine.. he does nap in there sometimes but when they're really small you tend to keep hold of them. If you're in a flat I'd say by the time you're ready to put them down for proper naps etc then they'd be fine sleeping in your room in their snuzpod.. I put my 3 month old to sleep in my room and then I'll be upstairs cleaning up running up and downstairs doing stuff and just check him every now and again.
Could look at something like a proper baby beanbag for the lounge.. this was one of the best things I had for my first and it coverts from a baby bean bag to a proper one and he still uses it now he's 2! X

Snuzpod is brilliant, I would highly recommend getting one. We had one for baby #2 and it was SO much better than the moses basket we had for #1 and lasted much longer.

Then just a cheap moses basket for daytime naps in the lounge. You can get one for £20 quid so no need to spend much. They grow out of them in a matter of weeks and if it's only for day time you dont need the bells and whistles.
Ours was second hand on facebook and then we just bought a new mattress.

Plot twist, I've decided to go for the Halo Bassinest. I was wanting the Snuzpod but I watched something on youtube about how the side just flaps down on the bed when you unzip it and I didn't like that.

For the lounge I'm thinking to see how I go without anything at first and then if it's a pain maybe get the Uppababy carrycot stand. Thanks for the suggestion on that one!
