Hi, I've just found out I'm pregnant with my first baby, happy news as we have been trying for over a year but I'm so new to this I don't know what to do??

When do I ring my GP?
Is there anything I should be doing differently? Eating, drinking etc.
Should I be taking anything?

Any advice from the mums on here would be so appreciated ❤️

Start taking folic acid if you haven't been doing so already. Call the GP and they will tell you what to do about appointments.

Congratulations!!!!!

Firstly congratulations! ❤️❤️❤️
Folic acid and vitamin D is what I took. You can stop taking folic acid after 12 weeks if you want to, but do carry on taking vitamin D all the way through.
Call your GP and let them know your pregnant. They will then arrange for your booking appointment with the midwife. Given lockdown, this may be done over the phone.
Eating and drinking pretty much whatever you want (other than the obvious, alcohol etc). Look on the NHS website for a list of things not to eat.
If you suffer with morning sickness I would say eat whatever you can stomach. Obviously a healthy well balanced diet is ideal but when you feel like shit and you're throwing up eat whatever you can keep down.
Nap when you can. You'll be surprised how tired you will be during your first trimester.
And last but certainly not least, enjoy it!!!
I wish you all the best 🥰🥰🥰

When do I ring my GP? You could ring them now, different practises work differently they might make a referal to a midwife for you or might give you a phone number to do it yourself

Is there anything I should be doing differently? Eating, drinking etc. NHS website has a list of foods to avoid, how much caffeine you're allowed etc but other than that just eating healthily. I'd try and eat healthily now as when the nausea/sickness/aversions start you will not be wanting healthy home cooked food 😁

Should I be taking anything? Start folic acid ASAP but ideally you should've been taking that whilst TTC anyway. You can get some pregnancy multivitamins too (don't bother with branded expensive ones, Boots or supermarkets own brand are fine)

Congratulations xx

Firstly congratulations!
You need to take folic acid and vitamin d, you can buy these cheaply in the supermarket or you could get a pregnancy vitamin like pregnacare. Call your GP and see what their practice is, at my surgery you went into see the GP who did a pregnancy test and referred you to the midwife who contacted you to arrange an appointment. I imagine in covid times they may just refer you to the midwife over the phone. Eat healthy and keep well hydrated (saying this I had a serious addiction to Kit Kat chunky while pregnant and didn’t do any harm 😂). Obvious things like no alcohol or smoking. There are a few foods to avoid (check out the NHS website)
Good luck Flowers

Congratulations :)

Ring your GP and ask them their procedure. I had to self refer but won't hear from the midwife until around 8-10 weeks.

Start taking folic acid 400mcg if you aren't already and vitamin D min 10mcg.

I had to cut out all my usual tablets for migraines etc and stick to just paracetamol and cut down my caffeine intake too.

Oh and I forgot to say drink loads of water!!! Helps with the nausea and when you're further along swelling.
And get yourself a good Shea butter body cream and start slapping it on daily, twice a day if you can. Whilst you can't prevent stretch marks, you may be able to help reduce how many you get, if any.
I used Palmers stretch mark cream for pregnancy and I suffered terribly with stretch during puberty. I didn't get a single one with my pregnancy! Whoop! 🙌🏻
