Thanks for creating a new thread @danielasummer

If it's not too personal, how much weight has everyone put on roughly during pregnancy?

I've put on 50 lbs so far and I'm 36+5.... I have been eating relatively healthy but haven't turned down any sweet treats I fancy or crisps when I get the urge. I was small before at a size 6 (I'm only 5ft 1), is this a normal weight to have put on or not?? When my midwife weighed me last week she wasn't too concerned but said it's recommended if it's usually half of that is put on?? 😬

I was 8st 6 when I got pregnant and I'm now 10st 4 so nearly 2 stone weight gain. It's all on the bump though. I don't look pregnant from behind and other than where the bump is, all my old clothes still fit me. I havent actually bought any maternity wear other than 2 pairs of maternity leggings and a pair of maternity joggers.

Marking the new thread. I am not on the list and useless at that stuff.

Due 21st November but C section on 16th. Have one DS who is 10 yrs old and having a surprise this time.

I started with a very high BMI so put on 10 pounds so far but it has fluctuated up and down for the last few months. I am not supposed to put on much at all at ny weight so please don't think that means I have been super good or anything like that. It is right for my weight x

kkr168 · 09/11/2020 17:06

I was overweight to begin with, I was weighed at my 12 week scan & again at my 36 week midwife appointment & have only gained 2kg's in that time.
My midwife jokingly asked if I'm actually eating!!
So hopefully when baby's born I will weigh less then my pre-pregnancy weight.

@Amyyy1 I've put on 3st 4lb, I put on 5st on my last pregnancy so I'm taking that as a win 🙊 I'm 36+1 and midwife weighed me today and just said make the most of it xx

@december2020 glad to hear testing is going well.. I'm 3 weeks in now and so far so good with the diet. I've had a few over but think generally all is ok. Have had no contact from the diabetes team but they monitor readings and you can request call backs if you want them.

I've got my scan next Tuesday (36 weeks) so will see what baby's growth is doing.

It's interesting a few were saying they were having to fight for c-sections, I've been offered one and really would rather not. I think I should try an induction first, although I know at 37/38 weeks the chances of it being successful are not brilliant. I do want to know the exact stats though.

My mum has unhelpfully been putting pressure on to 'just have the c-section' and to 'not go against the advice of a consultant' but I just always think they are going to be overly cautious and there is probably no reason why I can't just have this baby naturally - or at least try.

Anyone else feeling others family are weighing in on their decisions?!

@Amyyy1 i've put on about 32 pounds but was a bit overweight to begin with.. since my diabetes diagnosis about 3 weeks ago, I've lost about 3lbs and reckon i'll just hover around the same now until I give birth (5 weeks technically till due but prob only 2-3 to go)

@Amyyy1 - if your midwife wasn't worried that's definitely fine and honestly nothing to worry about - don't forget a lot of it is baby + uterus + water retention :-) You'll find people who have put on more than you or less than you but it depends very much on personal circumstances and your individual body: if you're eating mostly OK and not being a total lazybones then it's just your body doing what it needs to do :-)
I just picked up a couple of shirt dresses in different sizes from the Sainsbury's sale rack for post partum wear (as I almost always wear dresses and intend to breastfeed so saw an opportunity) and the size 12 one (which was my pre-pregnancy size) looks so tiny: I can't imagine it fitting ever again 😂

@Jalu47 I've been very cautious about sharing my decision with anyone but my husband.

I know my mum will tell me to have a natural birth, the one time we talked about it she spent 10 minutes warning me about the dangers of epidural so I think if she knew I was choosing to have a C-section, I wouldn't hear the end of it. I did mention to my sister that I was thinking of having one and being the forever level headed person she is, she said she felt it was very much my decision so didn't want to share her opinion with me as she didn't want to bias me in anyway.

I'm not sure what to do in regards to when I go in to hospital as I know what date I am going in, I don't know if I should message my mum on the morning and say I'm in hospital or just wait till baby actually arrives. What are others thinking? Are you sharing induction/c-section dates? Those who are having vaginal births, when are you planning on saying anything?

@amyyy1 I was classed obese before pregnancy 12 n half stone just gained over a stone they havent weighed me once since booking in dont seem interested but I've have been careful not to eat for 2 as I'm a older mum aswell so my metabolism ain't as fast lol if they are not concerned I'm sure it's fine I to am hoping to drop below my pre pregnancy weight after to but with xmas right round corner lol

@Pinktruffle - I'm very lucky not to have too much pressure from family but I'm still not planning to say anything until baby has arrived (although if I end up with an induction may well be messaging my sister out of boredom). I think I prefer the idea of being left alone with my husband and baby for a few hours before telling people or feeling pressure to update people during the process. I think it depends what feels right for you though: you could just fib and tell her baby is breech so it had to be a c-section? ;-)

peachypetite · 09/11/2020 17:30

I also plan to just announce the birth if I have a relatively smooth labour. If I’m induced I’d likely end up calling mum and sis out of boredom but hopefully it won’t come to that.

@Pinktruffle I REALLY wish i'd done the same now.., they have me questioning my instincts and I feel like they don't know the whole picture.

I've had a 'high risk' pregnancy since the beginning because of my crohns and now have GD but still really want to try for a natural birth. My crohn's really should have no impact whatsoever (my gastro team have said it doesn't) but obstetrician is saying it would.. he doesn't know as much as the gastro team in my opinion. My GD is well controlled with diet so apart from size of baby there is nothing really else to consider. So i'll wait and see what baby's size is at 36 weeks and go from there. I'm going to be VERY selective about what I tell my mum and sister about the appt - they are so opinionated and if I try a natural birth and end up with an emergency c-section I'll get the, no doubt subtle. 'i told you so', grrrr

Report
Pinktruffle · 09/11/2020 17:32

@EithneBlue I've already laid the tracks down with that one! When I first went to see the Consultant at the hospital, the baby was breech so I mentioned to my mum then that they would be monitoring it and it may mean a C-section. I feel like if I tell her and my dad the date, they will worry themselves silly, my mum in particular is a huge worrier. They also live 100 miles away so I dont want them jumping in a car and down the motorway when they find out I'm in hospital!

Report
Pinktruffle · 09/11/2020 17:38

@Jalu47 I think you need to do what feels right for you. You know your body better than anyone else and if you want to try a vaginal birth, they should let you.

I don't know a ton about Crohns but my Consultant mentioned that they have move your bowels out of the way when you have a C-Section and this can cause problems going for poo afterwards along with a lot of digestive discomfort as the bowel is sensitive- would this not cause issues when combined with Crohns? I would discuss it with both sets of docs (Gastro and Obs) before making a final decision if they try and push you towards a section.

@pinktruffle interesting hadn't even thought about the impact of c-section like that. Back in the day Crohns = Section but they have moved things on a bit now. Main concern from obstetrician was around tearing in that area and a poorer ability to heal, hence wanting earlier induction and smaller baby (not helped by giant GD baby!). Gastro team aren't concerned though, I've got no active disease and have been in remission for over 2 years so my chances are no different to anyone else!

I'm literally going back and forth on a daily basis on what I think I'll do - just need to wait until that scan next week!!

Report
Pinktruffle · 09/11/2020 17:53

It's a hard decision to make @Jalu47, I still go back and forth with my decision and wonder if I made the right decision. I think getting more information and seeing how the scans go is the right thing to do.

It's a shame it's difficult to get proper objective advice from the NHS, you just want all the facts and information from someone neutral but it is hard to come by. I guess as mums to be we should probably get used to doubting our decisions!

jalu47 · 09/11/2020 17:56

@Pinktruffle so true! A c-section would be the 'easy' choice and i couldn't live with myself if something went wrong in labour, but I just feel the risk is so small and anyone else with a 'slightly' big baby would try natural first.

Hey ladies. I'm due 16 Dec but have a section booked for 10 Dec

@Pinktruffle We've told immediate family and been very frowned upon for opting for an ECS, so since then we've just kept it to ourselves and not said anything to anyone else. I can't be arsed with other family members judgemental views. Dread to think what my MIL might say Confused

Weight wise, I've not weighed myself on purpose. I'm too scared! I was 10st6 but I know due to HG that I lost half a stone in the first trimester.

These days I am eating everything I can!!

jalu47 · 09/11/2020 17:57

and by 'easy' - I mean for me! I know it's not an easy choice for everyone...

@jalu47 I'm exactly the same as you. I'm creating scenarios in my head. One minute I want an ECV and ARM then I don't and want to push for a csection but I can't decide anything until I know what position she's in on Wednesday (I'm sure she's still transverse). I'm kind of hoping that she's in a position that they can't turn her and there is no choice but a csection then it's out of my hands.
I think we are all getting to the impatient, fed up stage and we just want our baby's.

I've gained 2stone which I'm pleased with as I'm 5ft 10 and managed to stay mainly in a size 12/14. I'm going to miss my bump but I'm looking forward to being able to bend over without lava in my throat, if the olds wife tale is true about heartburn being linked to baby having lots of hair, mine is definitely a werewolf 😫
