2-3 weeks on a Clearblue test is 2-3 weeks since conception. As pregnancy is counted from the date of your last period, this is actually 4-5 weeks pregnant. Lots of people get symptoms early on.

Drinks wise, a small amount of caffeine is fine. 200mg is the guideline the NHS give. This is actually about a litre of Pepsi Max! So as long as you weren’t having any other caffeinated beverages or chocolate, you could drink quite a lot. I drink a lot of the stuff 😬 I drink lots of water, nice squash (I like high juice as the artificial sweetener in some squash makes me nauseous in pregnancy, despite being fine with most diet fizzy drinks) and diet lemonade too though.

Water, juices, infused water (with maybe slices of orange or lemon or cucumber or lemon verbena or basil or mint), milk, an occasional tea, some herbal teas (check ingredients first), mixtures of juices and fizzy drinks.

I’m fond of fizzy water with squash in it. It has to be really cold. If I close my eyes I can pretend it’s fruity cider.

Starryeyedx Tue 27-Oct-20 14:45:35

Im also a smoker, have been smoking for 6 years or so, quite a chain smoker at that, ive cut down a lot sience ive found out, but is there anyway to stop easily, no hate please ive only found out the pass few days

I was a smoker too and I found ecigs to be really helpful. My midwife said they aren't harmful to the baby even with the nicotine. I personally preferred to cut that out altogether but it's better not to do too much too quickly and fail as a result. Talk to a midwife, they don't judge you on things like this and can be really helpful.

I got lucky to be honest as the smell of cigarettes made me feel really sick pretty quickly as a symptom of being pregnant so that helped so much.

Psychologically speaking, I told myself right from the start that nobody is perfect, I will slip up and have 1 cigarette at some point but I'll only allow myself 1 in the whole pregnancy so I'd better save it for when I'm truly desperate. So far I'm still saving it an at this point I think I'll make it to the end as I haven't thought about it in weeks

Oh and I'm addicted to ginger beer! It's great for nausea too

Congrats! I'm having the same issues here - I don't like plain water and will get much more fluid in me if I find things I like to drink.

First - you can still drink some pepsi max. I think actually the caffiene allowance means you can have around 5 cans and be within the limit (although not great for you!)

My go-to is soda and blackcurrant or lime with ice (thats what I would order in a pub).

I do try and force myself to drink water as I know it is the best thing for the baby. I keep a filter bottle in the fridge and add a wedge of lemon sometimes.

I've been drinking lots of decaf tea and coffee (although they do contain some caffieine so be careful). Roobios tea is completely caffiene free I think and it is actually quite nice.

Superscientist Tue 27-Oct-20 16:34:42

I switched to some of the fancy cordials - elderflower, lemon and raspberry (belvoir), Robinson's mint and something (fake moijito) or flavoured tonics I particularly like fevertrees aromatic tonic and the cucumber tonic

@Starryeyedx have you tried the caffeine free version of either Pepsi or Coca Cola? You could perhaps start to sub 1 or 2 cans of your regular Pepsi Max for a caffeine free version each day and see how you go.

For the smoking, well done on cutting down. If you haven't already, read up a bit on the effects of smoking on your baby and it might be enough to scare you into quitting immediately. If not, one thing I've found helpful in the past when quitting is identify the moments I am triggered to reach for the ciggies. Personally, it was my morning coffee and after food that were the hardest times. Allow yourself just 5 cigs a day and ration them for when you really feel you need them. Then gradually remove a cig from your allowance until you find yourself with none. It's not a proven method of quitting, but it helped me. Admittedly I wasn't pregnant when I quit so there was less pressure for it to go well. If you slip up one day, it doesn't mean you've undone all your hard work, just promise yourself you'll be back on track tomorrow.

Mints/brushing your teeth after a meal also helped me curb the craving.

jazzibelle Tue 27-Oct-20 17:02:35

@Starryeyedx p.s. if you like it, try drinks like Appletiser instead of your Pepsi occasionally too :-)

I vaped before I got pregnant, and when the sickness hit, I could only stand the bare minimum of things near my mouth. Bit of a self solving problem for me personally!

hapagirl Tue 27-Oct-20 17:16:14

When I was pregnant I craved grapefruit juice and drank loads of it.
