Hey,

I'm feeling a bit defeated and just looking to see if anybody has been through this before.

I have had some bleeding and cramp, had an early scan at 6w+6 and this was my scan. The midwife has an appointment for me on the 2nd to compare and see if it's growing.

From all the stories I'm reading from other mums, it seems that you should be able to see more at this stage.

Has anybody else been in this situation before? I can't help but think the worst and the 2nd seems to far away..

Hi again. I think I’m actually similar to you dates wise. By LMP, I’d be 8 weeks tomorrow but I only had sex once last month on 20th September which makes me more like 7 weeks. I had an early scan for reassurance today, and was able to see a sac, yolk and baby that measured 6 weeks 5 days with a heartbeat. Really hope you get good news on the 2nd, maybe you’re just earlier than you think! Our bodies can do such funny things. I had sex on the 20th cos I thought I’d ovulated on the 14th, lo and behold it must have been much later. Hope you’re feeling okay x

I really hope that hasn’t made you feel worse, I just realised you’d asked for stories of people who have had the same situation as you. Blush

I need to get your number @swiftt, hahaha.

The dates thing confuses me. If everybody is measuring by the date of their last period, why would mine be so far off? Do you know what i mean?

I'm struggling to stay positive just now. Every time I close my eyes I just think of the worst. Hopefully, everything is absolutely golden and I will be feeling much better soon.

I think i'm going to book a private scan before the 2nd.

Sorry you are in this situation.
I can't help with the scan results but in answer to your last question -
Dating from your last period assumes that you have a standard cycle and ovulate 2 weeks after your period. If you ovulate later than that it means that you won't be as far along.
If you don't track ovulation you have no way of knowing unfortunately.

Sorry you’re in such limbo, it’s hell. I went to EPU about a month ago when I thought I was around 6 weeks, they said I was about 5-6 weeks with a very slow heartbeat and to prepare for the worst as the heartbeat was VERY slow but they’d have me back in 2 weeks if I hadn’t bled.. I couldn’t wait the 2 weeks and booked a private scan for exactly a week after, we went along and saw a strong & flickering heartbeat and was told that yes it was early but all looked good and I was 6+4.. went back to EPU exactly a week later as per my appointment and they said I was measuring further at 8+1 and heartbeat was there and strong.. so I guess what I’m saying is they can get things wrong. Dates are soooo hard to measure this early on and the heartbeat starts around the timing you are now so if you’re a few days behind it’s not unusual. Of course I’m sure if you see other stories you’ll find good and bad outcomes as I did, I just know the wait until 2nd will be hell because it was the worst week of my life but keep counting down and stay positive xx

I've had this twice with different outcomes. Once there was no fetal pole and I misscarried a week later.
The next time I knew I had ovulated a week later than normal so when I went for an early scan ( due to bleeding) they told me there was nothing there and to expect the worst again - I had another scan a week later and there was a baby with a heartbeat. I'm now 14 weeks.

I really hope all goes well for you. Look after yourself as it can be really stressful X x

@MumToBeMaz I know what you mean! If you can’t be totally certain of your ovulation date, then it’s possible that you’re earlier than you think. But I would also say that when you got your BFP could give you a hint, too. If you got it several weeks ago, it would be really unlikely that you were only 5 weeks pregnant if you know what I mean. I’d definitely be booking a private scan, your head will just be a total mess worrying until then. X

Thanks everyone for your responses.
You've all made me feel a little better.

Going via my app, these are my dates:
Last period 4th Sept (7w+2)
Ovulated 22nd Sept (4w+5)
Got my first positive test on 1st Oct

So does this mean I'm only 4/5 weeks? If so, why do the NHS take the date from your last period?

I've heard that this is why they don't tend to scan until 12 weeks as all pregnancies progress at different rates, but it is just causing more concern.

I managed to book in for a private scan tomorrow night at 7. So hopefully we can see some changes from my scan on Thursday.

@MumToBeMaz so the earliest you can get a BFP is around 8 days after conception. So the earliest you can find out you’re pregnant is at around 3 weeks, you’re never actually 1 or 2 weeks pregnant. The absolute earliest I think you could be at the moment is around 6+4. You should definitely be able to see more tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed for you because like I said, our bodies do do the strangest things sometimes. In my last pregnancy, they never found more than an empty sac but I was really young, a bit clueless with my dates, and they told me I was probably just too early. I had a gut feeling something wasn’t right, and unfortunately it wasn’t. Hope tomorrow brings you some reassurance either way x

Hi OP, how many days are your cycles usually? I'm measuring 10 days behind my period dates but that's because I have long cycles so ovulate later than most women do.

Report
MumToBeMaz · 25/10/2020 20:43

@Teakind Hey, I have a 26 day cycle. I'm not too sure what that means though.

Thanks @swiftt. I'm hoping there is some positive news. I do have that feeling of something isn't quite right, but I am a anxious person normally so im hoping it's just that.

@MumToBeMaz I know how hard the wait is but I would go tomorrow expecting not much to have changed, I do think you may get more answers if you can leave it a week between scans (I was in the same position last month so I know how impossible it feels) but a few days in another week really can make all the difference this early on x

MumToBeMaz · 25/10/2020 22:44

I hear you. I still have my appointment for the 2nd which is a week tomorrow.

If I wasn't bleeding I think I could wait it out, but that just gives me extra concern.

I will let you all know how I get on though.

I was in the same position as you a few weeks ago. I went for a scan thinking I was 6 weeks but the sac was only measuring 4 weeks with nothing inside it. I was told my dates where wrong or the baby wasn't developing. I went back 7 days later & there was some grown but still not enough to see if the pregnancy was viable. I was told that at that stage 7 days isn't long enough to actually see if there is enough growth so was told to come back in 10 days where I then got to see a heartbeat flickering away. Im now 14 weeks & baby has moved a week forward from my 1st scan. I really hope you get some good news but don't be too disheartened today if there isn't much change.

@mumtobemaz I had this, I basically conceived the day my period was supposed to start so when I went to the scan, the sac was empty. I also bled lots but I always do when pregnant. Fingers crossed for good news

The pic you posted looks like an abdominal scan. Did they scan you vaginally as well?

It would be difficult to see a fetal pole on a transabdominal scan at 6/40. Vaginal scans give much more detail .
