Pelvic Pain

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and I had lower back and pelvic issues before pregnancy.

The pelvic girdle pain i have now is intense. I'm struggling to even walk round the house and it's getting me down. My husband is being great but I just feel so lazy as the shortest of walks just floors me.

I am currently off work due to other health issues so I am able to rest which I think is good in one way but could I be making it worse?

Has anyone got any tips at all? I'm getting quite desperate.

Thanks

Have you spoke to your GP/Midwife about this? I began having pelvic pain and back pain when I started walking to work (I used to drive). I explained this and my midwife immediately referred me to physio in case it was the start of PGP.

I'm still waiting for my appointment due to Covid etc but luckily, since I have started driving again, the pain is very rare and minimal.

A friend of mine had PGP and she was given crutches to support her. Would these be an option for you?

Hopefully it eases :)

Thanks Snackasaurus. I spoke to my midwife last week and they did give me a belt and prescribed codeine for the pain but I don't really want to take them as they make my other pain issues worse. She did mention referring me on to a physio so I will chase that up with them too. Did you find that helped? Grin

Sorry just realised you said you haven't been yet. I have some crutches from an old injury so I will probably get those out. They should help shouldn't they x

I have the perfect resource for you! It's a charity called Pelvic Partnership. They have a wonderful website and helpline. Just Google.

Also, you need manual therapy from an experienced physiotherapist or osteopath. But you will find out all about that on the website. Good luck.

I was adamant I didn't want physio as I was certain it was from me starting to walk to work but she said I might aswell put myself on the list because if I did need it, I wouldn't have to start the waiting list again.

Since driving again, I have been fine! When I was in pain though, I found sleeping on my side with a pillow inbetween my knees helped too :)

Thanks for the advice that website is brill. I will ring and get booked in to a chiropractor too as that looks like it will also help.

I hope you feel some benefit from the Physiotherapy. It's taking me an age to get used to side sleeping too but I'll try the pillow that should help x

I’ve just written a post just like this! I’m only 13 weeks but suffered SPD in my 2nd pregnancy, this is number 3.

It hurts to sleep on my side, it hurts to walk.. I dunno what to do! It’s mostly my left side (I had problems with my left side before pregnancy - which I think was related to my hip but I didn’t seek medical help)

Will the midwife do anything if I give her a call tomorrow or will she just suggest paracetamol? I’ve just ordered a pregnancy pillow but I really don’t see it being much help

I'm glad you found the website helpful. Please go for an experienced recommended physio or osteopath though.

And don't overdo it. The rest of your pregnancy is likely to be about exercising carefully and accepting your limitations for the time being.
