Pregnancy

32 weeks worried about sluggish morning baby but plenty movements rest of day?

Hi all. Now I am sure the answer will be call triage/midwife and I think I will once up and showered, but that is twice in 3 days now I have been worried early morning about movements.

Now the baby probably always sleeps at this time and I haven't noticed as been up for a pee and back to bed. And I am aware that being an older mum and a high BMI I am starting to get really worried about stillbirth. Didn't even cross my mind in my first pregnancy 10 yes ago.

I am up for a wee and then aware the baby isn't moving. I lie on my side quietly and give the baby a shingle and try to feel movements and am finding that it is 50 mins before I finally get a nudge back. My baby is normally very active throughout the day and once I am up and can feel plenty kicks I feel fine about it, but then again this morning, I was panicking.

Am I just being over sensitive?

I would still phone the midwife for some reassurance. Could be just your babies pattern but it's odd to change now.
Least they can have a little check of the heartbeat etc. I'd probably insist on being seen so they can check the BPM etc.
Plenty of times my son does this to me and was completely still. I'd be freaking out but as soon as that monitor went on he's was like a little footballer.

The advice is usually to call if there's a change in pattern? Looks like your baby has a lovely set pattern of sleeping in the morning and being active in the day time. Personally I wouldn't worry unless there's an alteration to this, but if you are concerned mention it to your midwife for peace of mind x

Sorry I didn't read properly that this "pattern" is only twice in three days. I'd be more inclined to ring midwife, then.

If your worried you should phone but all babies do have a pattern of being more quiet/more busy, it's when this pattern changes we should ge worried so you know your baby, if your worried you phone up SmileSmile

Thanks all. Will give them a call. I will probably do my usual and end up puttting up an argument for them not to take me in as it probably is a pattern of sleeping in the morning and active when I am up but just not really been aware of it till now. 🙈

I also have a growth scan booked in since 20 weeks for tomorrow too, but would never forgive myself if I woke up tomorrow and it had died because I didn't just pick up the phone.

I will feel like I have wasted their time but I think even if it gives me reassurance and stops me dwelling on it so much that can only be a good thing?

I also have lost 5 pounds in about 2 weeks which I mentioned to them earlier in the week and they weren't interested so that with this percieved change I think warrants a call even if I feel stupid later on.

Never ever feel stupid or you're wasting their time. Every midwife will tell you that they'd rather check you over then you sit at home worrying.
I went in fur RFM about 8 times and every time they would tell me never ever to feel like I'm wasting their time. My son was a right pickle sometimes and had unusual quiet times making me panic!
Let us know how you get on. All the best OP Thanks

I called when I was 39 weeks because baby had been quieter than usual. I had felt her moving just not as strong or as much as normal. They called me straight in and monitored me for over an hour. DD was absolutely fine but, like you, could never forgive myself if I had ignored it.

So I called and they are not interested.

She actually said the baby doesn't have a clock in there so may move differently at different times.....🤔🤷‍♀️. Not what NHS says online.

She said that if I noticed reduced movements throughout the day to call back. I am not terribly happy as told her it was worrying me and that I am older and she didn't even look up my records to see risk factors.

I will keep track of it today and I am sure everything is fine, but it is unusual for this baby to take so long to respond to me giving a touch or jiggle.

I have a scan tomorrow which has been booked since 12 weeks. If I didn't I think I would be back on the phone. I am very surprised they didn't ask me to go in. Must be a covid thing!

That's so rude. I'd phone back I wouldn't leave it until tomorrow. COVID or not they have a duty of care.

I'd also say I'm coming in to be monitored.

If it helps, OP, mine does this on occasion. Have you tried putting your hands over your bump? Weirdly, sometimes I can feel movement through my hands but not through my stomach. I also get DH to do this for me as his hands are bigger than mine and span more of the bump. I've nearly called early morning a few times but never did because I used a kick counter to monitor and DH and I both used our hands- 20 movements in around 15 minutes every time (slow for this baby, but still enough that I knew PAU would be fine with it). Yet I could've sworn it wasn't moving at all just by relying on internal feelings.

It def isn't moving first thing as I also have a doppler (which I would never take as everything ok) but you can hear it moving even if you can't feel it and def was not moving.

I am not impressed with them tbh. I guess they get a lot of calls from paranoid pregnant woman but making that call you don't make unless worried. Baby has been kicking me all day so a bit happier.

I said on the call that I’d felt baby moving but it just didn’t feel as strong or as much and they still told me to come in.

I wouldn’t be happy with that response.

To be honest if baby is being active the rest of the day I'd imagine it is just settling into a new pattern- it doesn't necessarily stay the same the whole way through. As far as I'm aware, the problems are indicated by either being less active than usual generally or really, really unusually active. If less active in the morning but making up for it the rest of the day, I don't think that's an indication of anything amiss (disclaimer: I have no medical training whatsoever, though presumably the midwife who answered the phone does). Personally, I wouldn't worry.

Baby was all good at my scan today. Mentioned the movements but they were not concerned. Feeling much better. Thanks all. X

Here they say baby doesn't really have a pattern before 28 weeks so maybe that's why they're not so concerned x

Yes will def keep and eye on this baba and will make a pest of myself if I have any issues. I wasn't massively pleased with them today. Was meant to see consultant and instead got a registrar who didn't open my file, knew nothing about by birthing history and tried to talk me out of a planned section that was agreed at 12 weeks! Couldn't believe her!
