Sickness

Firstly please no negative comments. I'm 9 weeks pregnant and feeling very unwell. I've had sickness since week 4 and had a viral infection. I'm struggling to get out of bed, every time I wake up I feel like I've been out the night before and I have the most horrendous hangover feeling which last until late afternoon and then I'm exhausted. I have no motivation and feel like crying most days because I feel like this. Yes I'm happy I'm pregnant, and yes I know how lucky I am but I'm also not sure how much I can cope feeling like this. I don't want to to bother the midwife as last time I called she said it's part of being pregnant and to rest and I have no chance getting through to a GP.

@violetrosemummy
Sadly what you're going through is normal pregnancy. It's a tough trimester and you will get through it, but not a lot a gp can do.
You just have to rest, take it easy, snack lots, lots of water, ginger tea, motion wristbands etc.
You'll be in 2nd trimester in no time.

So sorry you're feeling so rubbish. My sickness isn't as bad as yours but it's definitely present with lots of other horrible symptoms. As above said, fingers crossed by 12 week mark it will start to subside. Sending love x

There are things your GP can do!! I've been given cyclizine which helps a bit and there are a lot of other options if that doesn't work.

There's a really good hyperemesis support thread on here- please post on that as everyone is very helpful.

I'm 8 weeks and feel much the same, so you have my sympathies.xx

Thank you for your kind words, I felt so alone and guilty for feeling like this.

Get yourself to the gp and ask for some anti sickness tablets, you don't need to suffer.
I was exactly the same as you, kept thinking what have I done. Nausea is the worst and I have plenty of sympathy for anyone suffering.

I had a horrific time with sickness, I needed medication which helped a lot. Your GP should be doing phone appointments - I had several and prescriptions sent straight to the pharmacy until I found the right medicine for me. Don't feel guilty - my pregnancy is incredibly wanted (and almost over!) but I struggled so much from weeks 6-14. I had no idea how hard it would be and my GP had absolutely no problem with my calls and was always lovely!

FFS, no you don't have to just live like this. There are drugs you can take to reduce the sickness. Hundreds of millions of women have taken them, they are safe for the baby. Book an appointment with your GP, not the unsupportive midwife.

It is total bollocks that you should just put up with it, this drives me crazy. With my first pregnancy I was so sick, but I didn't get any help for it because the midwife implied it would be some kind of moral failing 'oooh, if you can't cope you can always go to the GP'. This is mad, I was losing weight, dehydrated and getting depressed - those things are bad for the baby!

Welcome to motherhood where you are supposed to have no needs or feelings and are just a container for the sacred baby. If you get antenatal depression due to feeling so sick, and feeling like your wellbeing has no value to anyone any more, and losing your sense of self because you can't get out of bed - no-one will acknowledge that you could have had treatment for the nausea. It makes me so so angry.

The things that helped me with my sickness early on was eating healthy and drinking plenty of water! Cut out refined sugar and stick with lots of fruit and veg. Good luck!

Why can't you speak to a gp? I've had 3 lots of sickness tablets prescribed over the phone until I found one that helped. Why on earth would you be expected to suffer? Call first thing.

If you want to speak to a GP or make an appointment you have to fill out a form online, which I have done today. I had an automated reply that they should get back to me by 6.30pm on Wednesday. But last time I had a query about something different I waited over a week for a response (it wasn't urgent). You just feel like your an inconvenience and with Covid I try not to be. And with being told it's just pregnancy symptoms I didn't know the GP could do much.

Just an update, saw midwife and I'm not dehydrated so nothing they can do and unlikely Gp will prescribe anything. Advised to eat little and often, plain foods, ginger biscuits etc. Maybe the GP will call tomorrow but I don't have much hope.

I had awfull nausea in my 1st trimester.
It got to the point i barely ate for 3days which was absolutely no good for me or baby.
I tried EVERYTHING that people suggested, if one more person told me to eat little and often i was ready to scream 😂
It literally was morning/noon/night for me.
I was prescribed 'cyclizine' & it was a god send. You could take up to 3 tablets a day bit honestly the 1 just done the trick for me.
I didnt get my complete full appetite back but i started eating again & ate whatever popped in my mind i fancied.
Please dont think you have to put up with this, i hope your GP gets back to you soon.

Not being dehydrated isn't a reason for the GP to not help you. I did get seriously dehydrated - but I wasn't when it started, it kept getting worse and worse. I wish I had got on top of it sooner, I was so scared that day. Your GP surgery will have a doctor on call every day, they have to, and they don't have loads to do because of covid - they don't organise testing after all. Keep calling reception!
