Gro Egg 2

Anyone used one and would recommend?

My baby is due January so feel it could be useful! But want to know if they are good or a waste of money?

We have the Groegg 1 and would recommend. I don't even realise how hot the room is until we had one of these in our room. It helps us as first time parents dress our little one dress appropriately .

We have it and i'd be lost without it! We also used it as a night light during the newborn night feeds. She's 9 months now and I still rely on it so I know how to dress her for bed

I got the original one on eBay for a few quid - it’s great. I’d definitely recommend a temperature monitor of some kind so you can dress the baby appropriately, but I’m sure you can get cheaper ones. Also our baby monitor has one built in so you might not need it if yours does too.

I bought one 9 years ago for my daughter and honestly it stressed me out more than anything. She was born during a heatwave and the groegg always glowing red constantly set me on edge because there was nothing I could do to bring the temperature down. I’m not bothering this time, you know how warm it is, Just common sense and save your money

We couldn't be without ours and as PP said above, it's a good night light for nights feeds.

Our Groegg just pissed me off. Winter baby and no matter the temp in the room or if I turned the heating off, it constantly said the room was too hot, stayed red and gave a frowny face! I’m sure they’re calibrated to err towards too hot (as it’s safer for baby to be on the cooler side). We called the damn thing Judgy Egg! The light was too bright too, although I think you can dim the new version. Pulled the plug after a month or so.

Our baby monitor has a temp gauge on it which seemed far more accurate so we went with that.

Yes, we had one and it came in useful, particular during the winter months. Any temperature monitor will do though.

On the night light thing, it’s pricey but it’s a long term investment, I would recommend the Lumie Bug. It’s non blue light emitting so doesn’t disturb sleep, it has various lighting levels right down to a very soft red hue which is great for night feeds. It’s got a sunset setting which fades out, which is great for sleep clocks. We used to fade it out to pitch black, then at 2.5 yrs, my DS wanted a night light so it now dims to the lowest setting. It doesn’t disturb his sleep but he can see enough to use the potty at night too and it’s cute face comforts him. It’s a useful light from newborn nights feeds and for years after and very versatile.

I’d suggest checking if your baby monitor has a temp and then looking into a long term light like Lumie Bug.

And while I’m at it (!!), if you’re thinking about white noise, I think white noise toys are a waste of time. Eat batteries and sound tinny. We went through several options before realising a white noise machine was the answer. It’s worth forking out £30 on Amazon for a proper white noise machine that plugs in, has a proper speaker, has multiple sounds and can run all night.

@FizzingWhizzbee123 I thought the same re white noise toys, and didn’t get one for my son (who is 2.5). But my friend has had a new baby and has Ollie the owl from the gro company, and it seems much better than the ones around a couple of years ago - charges via USB so no battery issues and the sounds are nice. Also it activates by itself in response to baby noise in the night which seems useful. I’m probably going to get one for baby 2 due soon.

@FolkSongSweet Ollie Owl wasn’t one we tested, so not sure what it’s like. We went through Ewan the Sheep, My Hummy, apps on phone, phones linked to Bluetooth speakers....

Once we got the proper white noise machine that you just plug in, turn on and forget, it was like an epiphany! The simplicity was a real lightbulb moment. Whhhhyyy didn’t we just do this at the start?

I personally can’t understand the need for any white noise to turn on and off. Just run it through the whole night, then it helps baby transition straight through to the next sleep cycle without it needing to stir enough to make any noise to trigger it, potentially disturbing the parents unnecessarily. There’s literally no reason not to just let it run. Never have to worry about the battery running out at the wrong moment or having to remember to charge it.

I also really don’t understand the need for the white noise to be cute or cuddly either. It’s a functional thing which just needs to be a sound in the room. It doesn’t need to be right in the cot. My son has a separate cuddly comforter which he can take anywhere and can be washed without worrying about electrical components.

I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but I really can’t see anyway that a toy is better than a decent functional white noise machine.
