Insect bite

I was on the sofa last night and got an itchy leg, realised something little must have bitten me as I couldn't see anything obvious. I'm 27 weeks pregnant, it's red itchy and slightly swollen. Not sure if I need to go to the walk in centre for a cream? I might try camomile lotion? Xx

Looks like a mozzie bite. Will be fine as long as you don't keep scratching it

Insects seem to love me so I have much experience here! You could go to the pharmacy and speak to the pharmacist to get some cream or something to make it feel better.

I have had a few get infected so it's good to be on the look out for the signs - don't want to scare you I think this is quite rare but seems to affect me quite a bit! If the red swollen area grows much bigger, or if it starts hurting rather than itching, contact your GP urgently and tell them you think it might be infected. If the red swollen area is heading up your leg, or you notice a red streak going up your leg then contact the GP and if you can't get in contact with them quickly, go to A&E.

I've had tonnes of insect bites during this pregnancy, bloody things!

Keep an eye on it but unless you see signs of infection (thankfully has never happen to me) I wouldn't worry.

Apparently you are more attractive to insects when pregnant because of increased blood volume, slightly raised body temperature temperature etc. Angry

Thanks everyone I'm keeping an eye on it, not much change definitely not more red or swollen - on/off itchiness but I'm refusing to itch it and using a cold flannel on it xx

I got two wasp stings recently while I was about 22 weeks. I initially used the usual stuff like calamine lotion, germoline etc which is totally safe. I
double checked with the midwife and antihistamine was OK to use but the packets say to check. Unfortunately I had a reaction to the stings so after 9 days they were extremely red, hot and itchy (one covering an area of 15x18cm on my leg!) and turns out the allergic reaction had turned into a soft tissue infection so ended up on antibiotics via the GP! Gladly much better now but definitely held off thinking they'd just get better and had a few very itchy nights so would check with the doctor sooner next time if they were taking so long to heal. Smile

I react like this to bites - the Boots own sting cream in the yellow tube is hands down the best for taking the itch and swelling down.
