New born must haves

Hi ladies I'm a new first time mum to be please tell me what I actually need in terms of rocker/ baby swing etc what things do I actually need and will be used ?

For the new born stage the only 2 items that were of use were a play mat with lights on and my caboo carrier. Spent alot of money on a bouncer which was never used.

We loved our fisher price electric rocking swing from about 6 weeks onwards - but I wouldn’t pay full price for one, got it second hand (like everything!) for about £30

A good baby sling / carrier and the schnuggle bath were the two best buys for me

Oh, and a good monitor which I’d advise to get sorted before you actually want to use it because they’re a bit of an arse to set up

Muslin cloths
Baby clothes
Sling
Baby crib/moses basket if you don't want to co-sleep

Really that's all you'll need for the newborn stage. Everything else is a bonus.

I'm sat here with a 12 week old and that's the only things we use. Honestly, she gets most of her entertainment from us 🤣

I used our baby bouncer every day.

Somewhere to sleep, food source, nappies and wipes (consider reuseables for both) and clothes (basic vests and sleep suits are fine).

Then wait till they arrive and see what you miss. Ours settles when bounced so we bought a basic bouncer from argos ordered online picked up from a local sainsburys he next day. We have also signed up for amazon prime for a few months. With online shopping you can get whatever you need within a day or so. I really would start with the bare minimum and go from there.

Check second hand sites too, we got a second hand prime in pristine condition for £100 (retails for £800), a caboo sling for £10, a travel cot (also used to sleep downstairs) £8.

Cloth wipes, disposables don't grip and cotton wool gets annoying

Stretchy wrap carrier

Bouncer/somewhere to put them when you shower/pee/really can't hold them

White noice device (old phone will do)

Bottle or water and snacks for you, especially if breastfeeding, my record for water was nearly 4 litres in a day soon after the birth.

Our bedside crib was barely ever used, might use it next time for a safe place to put a newborn away from a toddler though.

Within a few days of being home we bought this for putting all nappy stuff in to make it easy to move stuff from upstairs and downstairs because we never had everything in one place. We have also just thrown it in the boot when visiting family

A tote bag is useful keeping everything you need for baby, you and entertainment so you can transport things around the house without taking up a precious hand!

We’ve used the baby bouncy chair a lot with both this one (12 weeks) and older DS.
And muslins. As as many as you think you need, then double it

It's funny, I never needed bibs or muslins with ds. He never ever spit up any milk.

Didn't start using bibs until he was weaning.

Following as I love these threads I find them so useful 😍 only due May so long way to go for me but I like to think and plan haha

The best advice I've seen is to get amazon prime membership instead of buying loads before baby comes can order stuff as and when that way and to not assume your baby will love stuff others' did

I always say this but it’s essential to get a really good in ear thermometer (like the Braun ones) in advance. Everything else you can order on amazon prime but if you think your newborn may have a temp you will need to know immediately and it will need to be reliable! We had a crap tommy tippee under arm one at first which led to us thinking DS was really sick, late night trip to A&E, when actually it was just faulty and he had a mild cold 🤦‍♀️. Could have been so much worse if had been the other way round though!

Definitely agree about the baby sling. One of my biggest mistakes was not getting one straight away as I had a baby that wanted to be held all the time. I got the Close Caboo, which is very light so easy to wear around the house.
