Brushing teeth- nausea

Any tips on how to get through brushing your teeth twice a day when you've got 'morning' (aka all fucking day) sickness? I'm really having to force myself and I've tried 4 different kinds of toothpaste but they all taste repulsive to me. If you know of any very mild not too minty ones please let me know.

Also would love to know how to swallow pills without gagging too, I've got myself some much smaller pregnancy vitamins but I'm dreading taking them every day.

I'm taking medication for the sickness but there's only so much it can do it seems Sad

Ah, you may actually have Hyperemesis. Been there, done that. It doesn't get better after. At least it didn't for me.

Have you tried children's toothpaste? It didn't help for me but might help for you

I literally brushed with just water, when I could. Just the brushing motion would make me sick. Dentist was amazed my teeth weren't worse than they were when he finally got to see me after 2 pregnancies of Hyperemesis. Once I told him how sick I'd been, he was in impressed.

And I didn't take the vitamins. Folic acid made the sickness worse. Refused to take tablets that weren't anti sick meds because I didn't want to throw them up.

Oh, there's also a liquid version of pregnancy meds. That might help instead of tablets?

Oh I remember that so well, toothpaste tasting like perfume.. so grim. Can you perhaps find a completely non flavoured one? I think they exist. And maybe crush up your tablets and mix with food?

Could you try children's toothpaste maybe? They're usually mild.

I couldn't hang my head down over the sink had to stay upright so used to dribble paste down my chin! I also second only brushing with water if you need to also.
I ended up medicated for hyperemesis too but brushing teeth was a difficult task!

Kingfisher do a fennel flavoured one. It's not too strong but not minty at all. A different flavour might help, but if not, just use water. The brushing is more effective than the toothpaste.

Thank you I've tried the liquid vitamins and also the gummies but they were both a hard no due to the taste, I feel like I can still taste them weeks later! I'm taking the pills at night when things are worse so might have to change the time of day or as you say @ChristmasTree999 maybe put them in food. Although food choices are very limited at the moment! Children's toothpaste is actually a good idea, I might use my toddler's tonight. I don't think I can handle a fruity one, not sure why but I'm off anything sweet, but he has a very mild mint one. Chewing gum was good last time for making me feel less sick and taking the taste away but this time round it tastes like fish Confused pregnancy ey

Just take the boots folic acid and vitamin d combined pregnancy it’s tiny. I tried liquid pregnacare and it still made me sick. You also can’t take it on an empty stomach (learned the hard way). You could try a child’s toothbrush which is smaller.

I found my gag reflex went nuts, tablets and any smooshie food (soft fruit, mash potato etc) were horrific for a few weeks, there is un unflavoured NON FOAMING kids toothpaste that worked for me. I cant remember the name but it has a shark? on it. Amazon sells it.

I'm 32 weeks and still brushing my teeth makes me feel sick. I use the standard colgate now, I can't stand anything gritty or sweet tasting. I also have to use the blue colour mouthwash, also colgate to get rid of the taste afterwards x

The only way I could do it was in the shower, morning and night, looking straight ahead and on an empty stomach, not even water on board!

I use a child’s toothbrush and children’s strawberry toothpaste, only way to stop me gagging. And pregnancy vitamins, I haven’t taken them since about week 5 when I got really ill and all signs of a healthy bubba so far, the gummies tasted horrendous but couldn’t swallow tablets without being sick.. the joys! I’m 18 weeks and still rely on my anti sickness tablets, now I’m back at work I forget to take them and my god don’t I know it, sickness hits quite quickly!

I had awful gag reflex until DS was born in my first pregnancy (didn't even have bad nausea). Toothbrushing was always a problem I never really solved, but I found yoghurt drinks worked brilliantly for me taking tablets (particularly as the boots pregnancy vitamins were huge).

I actually found the chewable toothpaste tabs from lush were the only thing I could use while pregnant with ds.

I have hyperemesis and I’ve been struggling with teeth brushing too. I’ve stuck to a child’s tooth brush as it triggers my gag reflex less and I’ve also swapped to a Marvis orange flavour toothpaste. I also have a rhubarb one that works, just not as reliably.

I had to switch to childrens toothpaste, Superdrug also do a coconut one that I was intending to try but luckily my sickness subsided after 14 weeks and I've been able to go back to normal toothpaste.

I had to switch to a children's toothpaste too. The age 3-5 ones have the same amount of flouride in them as adult toothpaste, the 0-2 one has less but is even more mildly flavoured.

Truthfully, I stopped in the evening when my sickness was worse as it just made me vomit. I brushed once a day in the morning between week 6 and week 14. Hopefully no lasting damage!

I'm using a children's toothbrush and toothpaste, and I'm still gagging but a bit less. Also using mouthwash throughout the day as I'm so worried about my teeth!
