Holding your breath while pregnant

How does that work? Holding your breath doesn't stop blood flow through your placenta!! I mean unless you held it long enough to die, but I'm assuming you are still alive as you are posting about it!

Breath-holding is actually not recommended during pregnancy, as the resulting hypoxia is potentially harmful to baby. This is why exercises that involve reduced breathing or breath holding should be avoided.

That said, briefly holding your breath non-regularly is unlikely to cause any serious problems. Just don't make a habit of it.
