Pregnancy

How cautious are you being?

I am 32 weeks pregnant and due to go for drinks with some friends I havent seen for ages this evening. Would be outside and socially distanced.

Would you go? My midwife has given me no guidelines at all about what I should or shouldn't be doing.

I would go. So long as your careful and take your own precautions. I went to a 4 year old birthday party at the weekend with my son. (I'm 20 weeks) it was outside. I didn't get overly close to anyone.
My midwife has only advised me I shouldn't be working (as have work who have now signed me off permanently until my mat leave starts) but I work as a HCA in the local hospital so makes sense.
Like I said, I'd go. You'll only feel shitty if you miss out and it will likely do you some good. Not saying your mentally struggling or anything but I think it's good to do things to not get to that point. Enjoy yourself :)

Outside and socially distanced, I wouldn’t hesitate.

The benefit to your wellbeing of seeing your friends massively outweighs the very very small Covid risk.

Oh this is encouraging, I thought I'd be told that I must need my head testing!

I think if it’s outside then you’ll be fine! If you will spend it feeling anxious though then it might not be worth it if you see what I mean. I’m being a bit avoidant of social gatherings at the moment but that’s due to my own health anxiety and not reflective of how low cases are at the moment. Have fun!

Absolutely you should go see your friends. We've been seeing people for awhile now (only when it was allowed by guidelines and always following the advice re: location/number of people/social distance) and it has honestly been SO good for both of us, mentally. I don't think we really realised how much the isolation had affected us, since for the most part we enjoyed lockdown! It has also been great to tell people about our pregnancy in person.

One thing I'm not doing is hugging or touching anybody in greeting; it does feel a little weird to greet friends you haven't seen in months with an awkward elbow bump or fake air hug. But everyone's doing it and we make a joke of it, it's fine. I see younger people constantly embracing on the streets and it drives me crazy Confused

I’m 31 weeks and been out for dinner a few times now and honestly just the couple of hours out the house into normality made me feel like a new woman! Take some hand sanitizer with you, stay socially distanced and have a great night :) x

As long as you stay at the very least 1 metre away from them, then I can't see it being a problem. If you go inside, put your mask on.

Unless you have a medical condition that makes you more vulnerable, I’d go and enjoy yourself while taking sensible precautions. I’m pregnant and still going out weekly within the guidelines (currently that means only with my husband where I live) but we only have six months more ‘freedom’ to go for a meal etc before baby is here and it makes such a difference to our mood getting out and enjoying something close to normality. If somewhere was really crowded or felt unsafe I would leave but everywhere we’ve been so far have been on the ball with distancing and hygiene. Enjoy yourself and stay safe x

I would. I'm not being particularly cautious - among other things, I'm expecting to be teaching adult students face to face next term (I'll be in my third trimester by then) and I have no problem with this. To be clear, I'm not going crazy either - I'm staying within the law/guidelines, and I will be reminding the students that they should be staying 2m away (I'm in Wales so we're still at 2m).

Your mental health is important; having contact with friends is part of that.

Its our wedding anniversary coming up and DH would like us to go out to celebrate as we've not been out at all since March. I have provisionally booked a resteraunt for breakfast (hoping it'll be quiet at that time) but I feel nervous about it, I'll be 26 weeks.

Thanks everyone! I went and it was really fun. However the lack of social distancing made me nervous - the staff came really.close to our table and there was lots of visits which were unnecessary (e.g. asking if we would like to order when we already had) so that made me a bit nervous.
