Hey 😊

Just wondering about any early scan experiences. I'd love to see your scan pics too! I've got one booked in just under 2 weeks - I'll be 8 weeks by then.

What questions to you want to know?

I had an NHS viability scan during peak covid. DH wasnt allowed in, and no pics were given as 'apparently' their machine can't print them! It was an internal scan. I was measuring a week behind dates, and MC'd at 10 weeks.

Are you paying privately or is it NHS?

I had a private one at what I thought was 8 weeks 2 days, turned out I was only 6 weeks 3 days, I'll add the photo, not really much to see and they did an internal scan to get a better look, nice to know all was going well though and a heart beat was detected, now coming up to 20 weeks and have been back to the same clinic for a private scan to find out the sex at 16 weeks

@Elouera I'm sorry to hear about your MC, and it sounds like your scan experience wasn't great at all. I've gone private since I'd like my OH to be with me for the first scan at least. I hate that NHS isn't allowing partners in.

@GoogleyB aww it's a teeny lil bean! I've been a bit worried that I'll be measuring behind where I currently think I am but I have regular periods and know the exact date I ovulated etc so hopefully I'm accurately dated. Did they have any idea why you weren't as far along as you thought?

@beaniebaby3 my periods are usually fairly regular but every now and again I randomly get a really long cycle, so must just have been coincidence or maybe I ovulate late in my cycle, I didn't track ovulation as we were very lucky to conceive the first month of trying. Luckily it didn't occur to me to worry about being behind the dates I thought and all has been well since 😊
It's my 20 week scan (NHS) on Friday and partners are allowed in at our hospital now so looking forward to seeing little bean again!

I had an NHS scan at 6 weeks due to history of ectopics - found out it was twins, the staff were lovely and I could see both the sacs, the foetal pole and both heartbeats. I was also given a photo but I think they took pity on me as I've had 5 previous miscarriages and 2 ruptured ectopics at that hospital and the nurses were in tears as well watching the scan

I then had a private viability scan at 7 weeks at IVF clinic - again could see a fair it and got to listen to the heartbeat - my clinic said I could take photos of the scan screen and was able to film the heartbeats

Then at 10 weeks I paid £60 for a reassurance scan at a local private scan place and by far the best money I've spent - babies looked like babies and wriggling around. Appointment was about 15 minutes and was given some photos and also the entire scan was recorded as video and put on a memory stick and was given a medical report about what the scan showed

@GoogleyB ah see I have short cycles so hopefully I'll be what I think I am but we'll see! Amazing that they're letting partners in now, I've not received my 12 week letter yet so I'm not sure if my local hospital allows partners yet but fingers crossed. Did you find out what you were having at your 16 week scan and planning on just confirming it at the 20 week scan?

@ivfdreaming ooh twins congrats! I'd absolutely love it if I had twins. My OH and mum are convinced I'm having twins, but I think I'd have more symptoms if it was multiples. Yeah that's what I'll be having at 8 weeks - what company did you go for?

Also interested to see 8 weeks scans :)
If anyone else is willing to share 😬

@beaniebaby3

I didn't have any symptoms at all with twins - other than a very early bump - I was in maternity wear by 8 weeks - I still don't have any symptoms at all

I've got my 12 week scan on Thursday and still says no partners alllowed

I had my private scan at Midland Ultrasound and Maternity Services (MUMS)

I had the NIPT panorama blood test last week so should find out if we are having boys/girls this week 😬

@beaniebaby3 I wasn't told they are letting partners in directly but I looked on the hospital website and it said they were so have a look if they mention anything for your hospital...fingers crossed.
Although for my 12 week scan I had a call from the hospital the day before checking I don't have Covid symptoms and reminding me about no partners so you may get similar where you can check the partner situation.
Ye we found out it's a girl at 16 weeks 🥰 haven't told any friends or family yet until confirmation at 20 week scan...so hard not saying 'she' when I talk about the baby though 🙊

@ivfdreaming ah you're a midlander too then! I've booked with meet your miracle in Coventry but was looking at MUMS in Solihull, have heard great things about them and peek a baby. Aw what would you prefer? I'd love one of each if it was twins, would be an absolute dream!

@GoogleyB aw congrats! I'd love a girl but I'm absolutely convinced it's a boy. I'm already saying he when talking about the baby but my OH is convinced we're having a girl. I'll definitely be having a 16 week gender scan, hopefully if all goes well between now and then. I think I'll wait for my letter and then call up before my appointment to check. He'll be coming with me anyway but will wait in the waiting room if he can't come in for the scan but at least with my private scan he can come to that.

How do you go about getting an 8 week scan?? Preferably NHS, but how much are private ones?

Report
GoogleyB · 11/08/2020 14:44

@beaniebaby3 I was secretly hoping for a girl too 🙊
At my 12 week scan when partners weren't allowed, my hubby wasn't even allowed into the hospital so just be prepared it might be the same
I'm a midlander too! We're in Telford and work in Birmingham (when not wfh!) so not a million miles away and went to a private clinic in Shrewsbury (baby vision) as the closest window to the womb clinic to us weren't allowing partners in at the time.
When we went to the gender scan we only asked for/paid for the normal 2d one but she gave us a sneaky 4d look which was super cute 🥰

@beaniebaby3

Yes! I haven't been to the Coventry one but have used MUMS a few times for things like hcg tests etc in previous pregnancies. I like them as they link their database to Heartlands which is my local large maternity hospital

Honestly I'm happy with any combination of boy/girl - I've lost 7 previous pregnancies and the twins are the result of 5 rounds of IVF so that has really made sure i don't have any preference! I'll just be ecstatic to actually take 2 babies home this time

beaniebaby3 · 11/08/2020 14:52

@Mommabear20 I think NHS ones are only available if you're classed as high risk, are pregnant as a result of IVF, or have had any issues like bleeding etc. You can book a private one through a company near you. If you just google early reassurance scans and then your city or town you should find one. Mines costing £49 which I think isn't bad considering!

Here is my 8 week and 2 days scan picture. After a previous miscarriage I was very grateful to have some early reassurance.
I got my scan done at window to the womb.

Good luck Smile

@GoogleyB aw that's so lovely of them! Such a good picture too. I'm mentally preparing for them to say no partners allowed and he's okay with it as long as he can be there for the 8 week one. I've said we should book a private 16 week one too and potentially a 4D scan towards the end of the third trimester too but we're just seeing how it goes for now.

@ivfdreaming I'm so sorry, that must have been so difficult for you. This is my first pregnancy and I have so much anxiety so I can't even imagine how you must feel. The twins are truly a blessing for you then!

I had a private early scan at 8 weeks (See pic) & was told baby was measuring a week ahead. Then when I went for my NHS 12 week scan they said baby was bang on 12 weeks.
Hubby hasn’t been allowed into 12 or 20 week scan but in Scotland partners are now allowed to both of these. We missed the cut off by 2 weeks.

@scotgal99 that's such a clear scan! Baby looks like it's coming along so well.
Yeah I'll be 12 weeks towards mid/end of September so I've got everything crossed that by then it's relaxed and parters are allowed but preparing for them not to be just in case.
