Intrauterine pregnancy of uncertain viability

Hi, i'm in desperate need of advice please. I am 6 weeks pregnant and started bleeding for four days, no cramps but bright red blood and some with clots (wear a panty liner not pad).I had a vaginal scan and they dated me as 5 weeks (though i don't think thats right because i know when i did the deed and it takes me to weeks and 1 day. They could see a sac but not the yolk or fatal pole. They told me to go back in two weeks for another scan as it was still early and the diagnoses was Intrauterine pregnancy of uncertain viability. I felt that I am having a miscarriage but they wouldn't say yes or no! When i told them I had appointment the next day for blood tests with the midwife, they advised me to wait until my second scan, that in itself gave me no reassurance and I'm feeling helpless, how can i go on for another two weeks not knowing! Im still bleeding but not heavily, and wit no pain but its bright red! Has anyone experienced this and was the outcome? Any advice is greatly appreciated as this is making me very anxious and depressed.

Hi OP, I'm really sorry you're going through all this.

If it helps, pregnancies are dated from the date of your last period, not the date of conception, that's probably why it seems off to you.

Five weeks is too early to see a foetal pole or heartbeat, my last pregnancy I had an early reassurance scan and was told 6-7 weeks was the earliest you'd normally see those.

That's likely why they've said "uncertain viability", because unfortunately it's too early to tell either way on a scan.

Sometimes bleeding can mean a miscarriage but sometimes it doesn't - lots of people do get bleeding in early pregnancy and go on to have a healthy pregnancy.

I think the only thing to do at this stage is to wait and go for another scan in a couple of weeks.

I hope everything works out ok, OP.

That is a bit weird timing wise but it might just mean you ovulated late and then the fertilised egg could have implanted late. Sperm lives in the body for up to five days, so you could maybe have conceived later than you initially thought?

Hi Mammame 1, hope everything worked out for you. I'm in the same position, am currently 5 weeks 4 days and started bleeding yesterday afternoon. Have had the same advice as you.
