Is swollen feet and hands all the time normal?(9 Posts)
@magicstarlove I didn't gain loads of weight with it. To be honest I never really knew I had it. I knew I had high blood pressure but I had that before, and i just though the swelling was pregnancy, it wasn't until I got my urine dipped and their was blood and protein in it. When this was the case they induced me straight away🤷🏻♀️
With this pregnancy now I'm already high risk because of my blood pressure and I've already been put on medication to lower the risk of preeclampsia!
You should get a second opinion. My midwife seems to think I don't need to be high dependency, but my doctor strongly thinks I do so he is pushing for me to be monitored more frequently and have more scans etc. I think just to be on the safe side you should be checked x
Thank you for the replies
Would I be able to sit throughout the swelling etc? Or would I be in more pain?
I do have nearly all the symptoms apart from the big weight gain but like I said I was tiny 7,2 and now 9 stone 4 which happened rapidly from April until now but I don't gain 2-5 pounds a week
I'm the worst for not going to the gp unless it's very bad and since I can still manage day to day life I've only ever said to my midwife and not pushed for another opinion
Had preeclampsia with my first pregnancy.. all signs! I just had hbp and my feet kept swelling! Please get it checked out, you know your body and you know if your feet and hands are swollen!
I have pre eclampsia (had it during my first and second pregnancies too) and from 27 weeks I have always had serious water retention (edema). Swelling hands, wrists, legs, ankles and feet for long periods (or rarely ever reducing in retention and swelling) is a common sign for pre eclampsia. Yes, it can be due to normal pregnancy symptoms as well, but when you throw the blood pressure into the mix I'd check it out. I always have very low blood pressure, but when mine appears "normal" it means it's elevated, just as you're noting about your BP.
I would highly suggest you push on this to be monitored. Pre eclampsia is serious and when it goes misdiagnosed or undiagnosed it's an ugly situation.
Read about the symptoms of pre eclampsia on the NHS website and think about your body and how you've been feeling. Typically pre eclamptic symptoms become more obvious from weeks 35/36.
It's always better to be on the safe side and speak with a Consultant if your midwife is giving you the run around or ignoring your valid concerns.
Sorry. Phone froze.
Some swelling is normal but I would still have your blood pressure checked again.
They can be a sign of preeclampsia. You need to talk to your midwife ASAP.
It doesnt sound good to me. Have you had any blood work done? Maybe go and se your GP for a second opinion. Swollen ankles are often common, but your wrists and now throat swelling too is concerning.
Swollen hands and feet are definitely normal, especially in your third trimester and in this weather. I remember in my first pregnancy I had to wear my mother’s sandals to work one day, she is a size 7 and I used to be usually a 4 or 5. Also it’s really common for pregnant women not to be able to wear their rings, even for a while after giving birth.
I think if your midwife says your BP is ok then that’s not something to worry about.
I know it's very common but I have it all the time from wakening up to going to sleep. Is that normal it's been like this for over a month now I'm 36 weeks. My throat also swells up at times
I keep telling the midwife I normally have low blood pressure and mines is sitting at normal now that it could be high for me.
She's very rude about my weight before pregnancy I was a tiny uk size 4 only 7 stone 2 so she doesn't think my feet are swollen. But all of my family are shocked at the size of them and don't think they look like my feet and hands at all. And doesn't believe me about the blood pressure
are these all normal things? Has COVID made me paranoid?
Thanks in advance
