Any recommendations for a cot bed mattress?

Hi all. I'm looking to buy the mattress for our baby's cot bed and not sure which type to go for as there are so many options available. The cot bed we have is suitable from birth up to 4 years old so looking to buy a good quality mattress which is comfortable and lasts. Our bedroom is big enough to fit the cot bed next to our bed so planing on using it from birth and won't buy a crib.
Any recommendations will be much appreciated. x

I'd go for sprung rather than foam and it needs to be a perfect fit so perhaps from the same retailer as your cot bed.

We had one from John Lewis, 3 years ago and still excellent condition. Use a mattress protector in case of spillages etc

Also looking at mattresses, we're getting a silver cross cot bed, does that mean it has to be a silver cross mattress?

@Stargazer87 doesn't have to be but they'll probably fit better than other makes as they'll be made specifically.

Cot bed mattresses are mostly a standard size so there won't be much in it.

We got a sprung one from ASDA, it was pretty good value.

@DJBebe I got ours from argos, which is also where we got the cotbed from. We went mid range and its 2 sided, so one side is firmer for newborn and the other side is softer for toddler. Hope that helps

We went for this one which is a pocket sprung mattress. It seems really good quality and is currently on offer. Having also bought a cot bed with the idea of it lasting a number of years, we wanted something good.

Currently on a good offer

Babies need a very firm mattress but as they get older they might want something slightly softer. So we bought a "twist" mattress which is firm on one side and medium on the other. Expensive but made from natural materials and good quality so we decided it was worth it (we also bought in the Black Friday sale... not sure whether there will be any discounts soon eg August bank holiday weekend)

@NameChange30 how much did you pay for the little green sheep mattress? I've some research and I'm inclined to buy this one.

We got a lovely one from naturalmat - it’s organic wool and handmade in Devon. It was about £125ish but is so lovely and DS has slept so much better since he moved from his next to me into his cot with this. He’s 2.5 and has had it since he was about 9 months and it’s still firm.

@HarrietM87 sounds lovely. Where did you buy the mattresses from?
