I'm 33 weeks today and having a elective section, just wondering when other ladies got dates?
I was told I would be scheduled around 39 weeks.

I was told it would be booked at my 36 week scan

Got told it would be the appointment after the 32 week scan but when I went they said no it's 36 weeks.
Surprised so many are left till 39 weeks, I thought it would be earlier in case you went into labour naturally but I guess it depends on the reason for the section.
I have placenta covering the cervix, no bleeding yet- anyone else had this when was your section booked in for?

I’ve been told I’ve got an appointment with a consultant at 16 weeks. I’m not sure what this is about but was assuming my section would be booked then?

For those who have had an ELCS before, did you also have a 16 week appointment?

@Apsh2020 most ELCS are between 39 and 40 weeks as babies born by section before that date have a higher chance of lung/breathing issues (even though it's technically classed as 'term'). Most surgeons and consultants are very reluctant to book an elective before 39 weeks unless there is a medical need for it.

Mine was booked for 39+1 but I've just been diagnosed with preeclampsia so it's been brought forward a week to this Friday when I'll be 38+1. I'm having steroid injections today and tomorrow to help the baby's lungs.

If you go into natural labour before your ELCS, you can generally still have your section as long as you are not too far into the labour (8cms snd over in my area)

@FriendsCallMeValerie I had kne around 15/16 weeks just to discuss my history and requirement for section. I was told at that first appointment that my date would be booked at 36 weeks.

I got mine at 20 weeks but only because I asked my consultant

Mine was booked in for 39 weeks at my 36w appointment but then I got a text to confirm the date the week before and had been bumped to 39+3.

Mine was booked at 37+5 when the ECV didn't work. I was 38+4 when he was born l. I know this is purely anecdotal, but if I need a section again I would hold out as long as possible. DS spent 8 days in SCBU. Although it turned out there was nothing wrong with him in the end, I am convinced he just wasn't ready to come out yet. I think the hospital was quite full when he was born and they wanted him out sooner rather than later due to him being footling breech. There probably wasn't any space the day I was 39 weeks 🤷
