So I had a scan today and baby already weights 4 pounds 7 oz., They said babies head is big and measuring two weeks ahead. Has anybody had any experience of this and not ended up with a monster baby 😬

The growth scans can be wildly inaccurate so it's best to take them with a pinch of salt unless you get several consecutive 'large' readings.
At 31 weeks, my baby was apparently 4lbs

Thanks, Yes I've had previous scans where baby has measured 5 days ahead

Ive had a scan today at 31+3 and he is estimated to be 4lb13oz I also have polyhydramnios. I dont feel he is as big as he is plotting on his growth chart (above 97th centile) The scans can be inaccurate to a certain degree. I have been absolutely terrified but there is literally nothing I can do to change it.
Are you having anymore scans? X

Slightly later, but I had a scan at 37 weeks (they weren’t sure if baby was breech). They estimated the weight at around 8lb, which put my ds’ predicted birth weight at over 9lb.
He was born at 39+4, weighing 7lb7oz. Growth scans can be really inaccurate, try not to overthink it.

I had a growth scan at 35 weeks and she measured 5lb 10oz. I had another at 36 weeks and she measured 6lb 12oz. I gave birth at 38+6 and she was 7lb 10oz.

My first scan they said I was on track for a 7lb baby. Then after that they said she was going to be massive. I measured completely off the percentile scales bump measurements.

She was on the 87th percentile when she arrived.

It's all a bit out. I wouldn't focus too much on it.

My baby measured 4lbs at 24 weeks and was born 1 week early at 10lb 1oz

For me, the growth scans were accurate. At 32 weeks he was 7lb 5oz

That said, I have friends who thought their baby was big due to scans and had perfectly healthy 7lb-8lb babies xx

I had a growth scan at 33 weeks and the nurse was concerned that the head might be too big (approx. 2 weeks ahead) compared to the rest of the body. She went on to consult a doctor who disagreed with her! They concluded that the measurements are as expected and that the issue was not being able to get a good look because baby's head is extremely low. As a precaution, they gave me another appointment for a growth scan on 29th July so we'll see then.

Forgot to add - the weight of the baby was as expected, 4.5 lbs, which is exactly what my midwife anticipated when tape measuring me.

@rlnx is this your first baby? I have requested a scan for 36 weeks just to see what I'm up against size wise by then, so I'm having that in 5 weeks. Have they given you an estimate of what they think baby's birth weight will be?

Sorry to be nosey, but why did you ladies get a growth scan? I am currently 24 weeks pregnant and haven't been told anything about any more scans

Thanks everyone it seems to be very 50/50 as regards the scans being accurate. This Baby has consistently measured ahead since 12 week scan so somehow I doubt I'll be one of the ones who ended up with a smaller baby 😬 my dates are spot on too so there's no discrepancy there

I had scans showing 2nd baby was big at 28/32/36. He was about two weeks ahead at each scan and ultimately he ended up as nearly 10lb so they were about right.

Yes, first baby! :) I think that's a sensible idea!
Im having weekly scans to measure the water and then a growth scan every other week.
Based on my growth chart, hes estimated to be just under 4.5kg if he carries on growing the way he is. My BMI is 21 so for me that seems quite big!

@Natalie654321 I was in hosp today for reduced movements and after my trace they send me for a growth scan to check babies size, but I've had two private scans one only being on Saturday where I've been told Baby is measuring ahead. Midwife today also commented that my bump is big for 31 weeks

Im having extra scans because I had 2 episodes of reduced movement's in less than a week. They scanned me and found I had polyhydramnios so our trust policy is to check the liquor volume every week and growth every 2 weeks
If you're considered to be a low risk pregnancy and there are no concerns then you have your dating scan and mid t scan as routine with the NHS xx

@rlnx that's great you are being monitored so closely, and having scans frequently. I know as long as baby is healthy that's the main thing, I'm just finding it a bit daunting that's all, this is my third and I had a 6 pounder and 7 pounder so this is all new to me

@rlnx I also have polyhydramnios and am being scanned every 2 weeks atm to check fluid levels and growth. Do you mind me asking what your deepest pool is? Mine was 8.5cm last week.

My baby was estimated to weigh 4 lb 13 oz at 32 weeks last week, and he was estimated to be 3 lb 13 oz the 2 weeks previous to that, so putting on about 1/2 lb each week at the moment.

@UrsulaSings mine is 9.1cm but they think it could be a bit more because his limbs are always in the way Smile
Im having ctg monitoring 3 times a week because im struggling to feel him move. I think its the amount of water & an anterior placenta cushioning things though.
Im feeling so fed up tonight :( 2nd night in a row I just cant sleep because I'm so uncomfortable

They did mine at 33 weeks because I came in for reduced movements. Since that was my second time (the first reduced movement incident happened at 25 weeks) they've put me on the monitor and then did a scan. Both times there was absolutely no reason for reduced movements, all readings were just fine.

So the other day I had an emergency scan at 31 weeks pregnant and my baby's femur measured at 54.2mm and weighs 2lb 13oz. They said this is a worry but I don't know if it is? Can anyone give me some advice about it
