10 weeks pregnant tomorrow and had brown discharge today

Hi there I'm 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow and I've had brown discharge today! My stomach is quite sore also. I called early pregnant unit but they can't do anything! I had a miscarriage in March I'm so scared it's happening again.

I had a scan at what I thought was 8 weeks but turned out I was only measuring 6.5 weeks. I seen the babies heartbeat then and they said baby looks fine.

I'm so worried my scan isn't until the 3rd August. Should I book an early private scan just to clear my head? I feel like I'm on my period that's the only way I can describe the feeling.

Do t be too alarmed as it might be nothing worrying. At 10 weeks I had a small amount of brown mucus over a couple of days. I feared the worst and cried my heart out. When I spoke to a midwife they instantly said brown is old blood so don’t worry. I’m
Now 18weeks and have had no issues so far.

I think you should try and speak to community midwives or EPU for their advice and they might be able to offer you a scan which will hopefully put your mind at rest.

Sorry just seen you have already spoken to EPU. If you can afford it maybe try and get a private scan but I would def try and speak to community midwifes.

I had that all with all 4 of my pregnancies , from about 8 weeks. It is scary but it's very common, I know it's hard not to worry though.

If you’ve had sex recently then it could be that. Your cervix changes during pregnancy and it’s easier for it to bleed a tiny bit if it gets knocked.

@ThickFast no I've not I've been too scared as when I was having the miscarriage I bled everytime after so this time I'm so scared to do anything!

I had a lot of bleeding for a little while in the first tri with my eldest. I didn't know I was pregnant thankfully as had a msicarried earlier in that year. It could definitely be fine but if I were you I'd get a private scan. Good luck

A few months ago I was really worried about something in my pregnancy and wanted a scan but they wouldn’t give me one. One midwife I spoke to said something along the lines of ‘Are you experiencing any sharp one-sided pain?’ I said no. She then said, ‘Perhaps you might be experiencing that next time you phone’. I rang the next day, said this and they booked me in for a scan.

Maybe this is not entirely honest, but if you want a scan, these seem to be the magic words.

Good luck!

@sav1233
You have my sympathy as I think I’m currently experiencing a similar situation although I’m a few weeks behind you.

I’m surprised the EPU hasn’t offered you a scan. I guess they suggested to monitor your symptoms and get in touch if anything changes.

I’m meant to go for a scan next Wednesday but I hate the feeling of not being able to take control or know what’s happening so have booked a private scan for Sunday.
Perhaps you can book a private scan?

@MNGal1987 oh are u what a shame. I think it's ridiculous they can't scan people when people are having these symptoms! They said it's because of covid! Which I don't agree with as when I had a miscarriage they offered me a bed and to stay in hospital! I've been looking and I can book a private scan for Sunday also. I know what the outcome is going to be though as I'm quite sore tonight! I was really ill last week my sickness was awful but then all of a sudden my symptoms have gone away also! So I know what's happening.

How are u? What kinda thing is happening with u? I pray u go on Sunday and it's good news x

@sav1233
Using Covid as a reason really isn’t an excuse (unless the area you live in is currently on the rise with infections 😔) and as you said your previous miscarriage happened in March so it’s weird they haven’t even offered a reassurance scan.

Every pregnancy is different so try not to assume this time is going to have the outcome of what happened in a March 🤞Symptoms can come back just as quickly as they’ve disappeared.

I’m a high risk pregnancy due to complications I had post birth with my daughter. Therefore I’ve been getting more ‘attention’ you could say so had my first scan when I was supposedly 8 weeks but like you I measured 6. So an internal scan had to be performed. Saw a little blob with a clear strong heartbeat - no worries, fantastic!
Literally 24 hours later I feel like I’ve got period cramps and was very surprised to see rusty coloured discharge when I wipe (it’s like stringy/slightly clotty looking too) but it’s not red or heavy 😔 It’s been 2 days of cramps and rusty discharge but still got pregnancy symptoms like extremely painful boobs etc so I really don’t know how this is going to pan out. Hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

I have an amazing partner but he’s in the navy and on the other side of the world so I feel like I’m going through this on my own even though I know he wants to be here.

Will you book a scan? If anything at least you’ll know what your body is up to. Peace of mind is priceless. I’m praying for you too x

@MNGal1987 that sounds exactly like mine! I could literally write everything u just said.

We are in Edinburgh so the infectious rate has dropped a lot! But I don't get that why when in lockdown they offered me to stay in the hospital to have miscarriage but now they can't offer to see me!

I've just booked a scan for Sunday so also like u hoping for the best but expecting the worst.
Xx

@sav1233 strangely I take comfort knowing I’m not the only one going through this limbo of not knowing what our bodies are doing.

Ahhh you’re from the east coast - I’m an hour south from Glasgow so yeah the Covid outbreak here is pretty quiet compared to a few weeks ago. Can’t get my head around why you got a bed in the peak of the pandemic but now they won’t even offer a scan 🤔

Hope you can try get some sleep and I’ll keep you updated with what the news is on Sunday 🤞 Xx

My sister has exactly the same thing yesterday's and the smaller measurements. She had a scan a t epu today and all was fine measuring just right. I think bits quite common.

@jullyg oh really and I'm guessing everything is ok? Is she still measuring small? I don't have a good feeling I'm quite sore today again like I have a period. I'm absolutely dreading my scan tomorrow. X

Hi I’m just under 6 weeks I had brown discharge mon Tuesday and Wednesday mainly when I wiped
Try not to worry my swabs came back I had a thrush
It may well of been that or the fact I had an internal cervix is super sensitive in pregnancy
Since I inserted the pill doctor prescribed touch wood I haven’t had any
This could be the case for you also
I’d say so long as there is no excessive bleeding accompanied by pain you are safe
I was told brown is old blood

@sav1233 How are things with you today? Have you called the EPU only the once? I feel like calling (one and only time was on Thursday morning) but think I’ll be fobbed off xx

@Annu786 oh really I was beginning to think I had an infection as my pee was quite strong so hopefully that's what it is. It's just the pain I have that's worrying me like I have a period. Glad ur ok x

@sav1233 I have got really quite bad cramps but weirdly feels like on the one side. Also I’m pretty sure I can see the discharge changing colour from rusty to more pink... really believe this is the beginning of the end for my little baby bean.
I rang the EPU so just waiting for a call back, I doubt they’ll see me today.

It’s a good sign that your colour hasn’t changed. Like you though it’s the cramping that’s more worrying than the discharge. Xx

@MNGal1987 what a shame I'm beginning to think this for me aswell. I haven't called hospital back as for me I didn't see the point! If I was using drugs or drink they would want to see me right away! Makes me angry!

Keep me posted on what the hospital says I'm praying it's nothing for u 🤞🏼 xx

@sav1233 it’s really difficult not to think worst case scenario 😔

Yes you are totally right... because we aren’t drug users or alcoholics we get put to the back of the queue.

The lovely midwife rang me back and answered all the questions I had. Gave me numerous reasons why I’m having rust coloured bleeds and cramping.
Firstly the internal scan could have annoyed my cervix causing cramping. Also during my scan they looked at my ovaries - I have a ‘corpus leteum’ on my right ovary which had fluid near it so that could be the reason for old blood and also because my cramping is mainly on the right side of my abdomen. Also from my scan on a Tuesday there was fluid (likely blood) that could attribute to my current bleeding. It would have been good to have been told this when I had my scan 🙄
I asked her to be honest and she did say that it could also be the beginning of a miscarriage. Either way I won’t know anything until I get scanned.
Private scan tomorrow, it’ll be a long night.
I really struggle with unknowns so tomorrow I’ll hopefully get some answers before the NHS scan.
Send you good thoughts 🤞🤞 xx

@MNGal1987
Well that's a little bit of good news then and fingers crossed for good news tomorrow 🤞🏼🤞🏼
What time is ur scan at?

When I had my miscarriage in March they found a cyst on my ovary so I'm praying it could be that but also not very hopeful If I'm honest 😭 wish I could be more positive.

Good luck tomorrow I am praying for u 🤞🏼🤞🏼 xx
