Breathing like movment

hi I am sorry to ask this. I don't want to sound stupid but has anyone experienced like a breathing motion from their baby? i am 35 week pregnant and this has been happening almost everyday now since I was around 33 weeks pregnant literally like a baby breathing inside or dog panting inside.
he would start it around 11am or so and will continue the breathing until around 10pm some time it is less obvious sometimes it is more obvious until I head to bed. he doesn't do it when he is sleeping but when awake between those times he starts to do it. sometimes it come with hiccups sometimes it doesn't and he is moving as normal as well as doing this breathing motion.

I spoke to my midwife who said its hiccups which I know it isn't. I am now having anxiety that maybe I have damaged the baby because I have been anxious the whole pregnancy and now this movement no one can tell me what it is is not helping my anxiousness.

I have read babies can practise breath but you shouldn't see it and i haven't heard of anyone say they their baby do it for hours and hours a day like mine.

anyone had similar experience?

You're going To have felt hiccups. Babies don't breathe inside us like we do. They don't take it breathes as it's all fluid. Don't worry, baby will be fine! Sometimes the hiccups I get from baby (38 weeks) are the same timings as breathing. Xxx

Hi @grace1991
He gets hiccups as well aroind 3 or 4 times a day everyday. But this is not hiccups that is why I am concerned what it could be.

Hi
I just came back from maternity unit. They did an ultrasound and could see him breathing away. So yes it can be seen. It just depends on your build. That is what the sonographer said.

Okay so the previous two commenters are wrong, you can 100% see your baby breathing, the do practice breathing! My little girl used to do it all the time from about 32 weeks, midwife reassured me thats what it was, I got it on video and it was cool to see! Its a good thing mama! Means they are developing to be ready for the big outside world!

Baby’s in utero don’t use their lungs. Did the sonographer say she could see the baby breathing?

Hello I went to the hospital for scan on Thursday and baby was practice breathing in there! Big tummy movements going up and down 😀. I’m 36+5. It was amazing really! Never knew about it! Xxxx

Hi ladies,

Yes the practise breath in there. Their whole abdomen moves up and down. Inwas too worried so I booked an emergency ultrasound today and saw it with my own eyes. I see it on the outside of my belly and could see it on the ultrasound as well. Midwide said it is very good sign.

Usually most women won't see it because of their physique but if yoi are quite petite you will most likely see it. But not guarantee to be seen from outside belly.

Oh my god I'm so thankful for this thread. Everyone thinks Iv gone mad! I have this to!
I have a video but I don't think you can attach them unfortunately. I'm sure it's baby breathing.

Omg I've been having this the last few days, so glad I'm not the only one! I can see my stomach moving and feel it, it is definitely not hiccups as my baby also has hiccups about 3/4 times a day so I'm used to that feeling.
I feel it on my left side which is where the baby is lying, with their legs over to my right side. I thought I was going mad though thinking it was breathing. I'm also very slim (had v viable abs pre pregnancy so very little fat on stomach) so wonder if that is why.
Really glad I've read this thread!

I also feel this sensation! I thought it was hiccups but did think it was weird for hiccups! I'm also super petite with a very well defined bump so perhaps it's something to do with that like you say x

Hi ladies

I am glad I can reassure you all as well. It is annoying that midwives and others who haven't experienced it look at you crazy when you mention it or put it down as hiccups as if we don't know the difference Hmm lol
