Cervix scan

Hi all. Apologies for posting another thread about cervixes (!) but I'm hoping for some experiences/advice. I am 14 weeks pregnant, and was told that because of a previous LLETZ for cervical cell changes I would have a scan to check cervix length at 16 weeks. Have got an appointment - but not until 18 weeks. I rang to check and the consultant and hospital are point blank refusing to do it earlier, even though all the material I have read says 14-16 weeks is the best time to check. What do I do? Make an enormous fuss? Book a private scan to check it earlier? Or am I over-reacting and its probably fine? I'm just so stressed and worried and when I think about it I feel like crying. Help!

Do you know from your notes how many mm or cervix was removed? Anything under 15mm and also if only one LETZ they seem to have the science to not have to worry too much. Hard being the one who has to wait though! For ref I had 14mm removed and had to wait until 20 weeks for them to scan cervix. It was fine!

Not sure what to advise but just to let you know that mine was at 17 weeks 3 days, (then another one at 23 weeks) so it seems that might be standard for NHS. Have you looked at the NICE guidelines?

Hello,

I had one around 17/18 weeks and then three more and I ended up on daily progesterone pessaries from 23 weeks as my cervix was weakening. These were until I think 34 weeks (only last year but I can’t remember haha).

I had two parts removed, on there own it wouldn’t be a concern but as they did it in two parts it was.

I was high risk of pre term labour.... we got to 37 weeks and we’re due for an induction as she was also little, one sweep later and she came that evening.

I’d be fine with the 18 weeks personally but it’s up to you for peace of mind if you want an early scan.

Our hospital ran a clinic at the maternity section for it and the clinic was always full at the hospital and appointments were like gold dust - I’d imagine the clinic is full and the earliest you can get one is 18 weeks.

My trusts document is between 16-26 weeks, here it talks about daily injections - it’s not anymore it’s pessaries

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences! The guidance I’ve seen (nice and Tommy’s) def says 14-16, but sounds like 18 isn’t crazy then? It frustrates me that I suspect you’re right it’s more about availability than what’s right medically though. Hmmm. Am tempted to try once more to move it and failing that I will look into going private - might be worth the £ just for peace of mind if nothing else! I only had one procedure and a small amount (I think 3ish mm) out so hopefully it’ll be fine....but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

Ah so I had a lot more removed, one piece was 9mm and the other 4mm which is why I had more scans. My cervix intially was actually okay and was 35mm it was at the subsequent scans it shortened to about 26 at the last TVS.

If you google your NHS trust you can probably find their policy.

I had my first cervix scan at 21 weeks following Lletz approx nine months before I fell pregnant, my cervix did start to shorten at 24 weeks and like the PP I had progesterone pessaries up until 36 weeks and fortnightly appointments to check my cervix up until 34 weeks. All was fine though, not sure how much I had removed, size of a thumb nail I believe it was described as

But different here as I hadn't had surgery but had had a previous pre term loss and was having twins so lots of risks. I had mine at 14w for the first one then at 18,22,24 it was between 22-24 that it shortened alot 2.6-0.7 😭 and I had an emergency stitch. I got to 34 weeks with that, bed rest and progesterone. So what I guess I'm trying to say even if I hadn't started until 18w the outcome would be the same because that was when the shortening happened. I did start progesterone at 22 though as it had shortened slightly then but not alot of difference earlier.
