What do you class as an active baby?

So I know all babies have their own patterns etc but I always see people saying that they have a ‘wriggler’ or a particularly active baby. This is my first pregnancy and while I think I have a wriggler in there, I have nothing to compare it to so he might actually be lazy in comparison. If you have a ‘wriggler’ or a particularly active baby, how many movements is normal for you in a typical day?

Only 24 weeks here so baby is still establishing a pattern. I keep an eye on the number of periods of movement rather than specific movement numbers.

So far, normal for us is: c4am enough to wake me, 8am when having tea in bed, 11am after a snack, 1.30ish over lunch, quiet afternoon (I’m usually busy and active so maybe I just notice it less), evening one or two bursts, 10.30-11pm period of heavy movement.

I had a very active baby and would use the count the kick apps. When I started maternity it would be 70+ kicks in a day.

Because I was able to track and monitor them

I am now TTC but have a toddler who is 2.5 yrs...when I was pregnant with him, I felt his little kicks from 12 weeks, like little brush strokes inside my tummy that slowly got stronger. He used to kick constantly for periods of 36 hours, day and night.then he would have a little rest 🤣. It was reassuring to feel the little kicks. Can’t wait to feel them again 😊

@Bouncytree It sounds like you had a really active baby! Hopefully it won’t be long until you’re feeling the little kicks again!

My baby always has a little kicking session in the morning where I feel about 50-100 kicks/squirms/elbows etc in about an hour, then I feel maybe 2-10 an hour until the evening when he slowly ramps up in movements until I’m in bed when he has a little party and I feel 50-100 movements in an hour again. When he stops I go to sleep and I don’t feel him again throughout the night. I’m naively thinking that might mean he might not wake up in the night too many times when he’s here 🤞

So cute @Melbs6. He has his little personality already. Lovely to hear you bonding with his little movements. 💕 So sweet.

Good luck with the sleep thing! 😬🤣

30 weeks and mine never stops moving. It’s quite painful at times. It’s pretty constant.

I think most mums say this about most babies as like yourself we don't really have anything to compare it to so for yourself they feel active. But some do seem to be more lazy than others, I think once you get into the third trimester they really start to show their own pattern, so for example with my daughter she would always start jabbing me in the ribs at meal times and then again around bed time, she's also get hiccups a lot in the night, you'll learn your own babies pattern and I guess all babies are active to some extent Smile

There was an illegal rave going on in my uterus last night, that’s what I’d call an active baby Grin didn’t get to sleep until 4:30AM!!

Mine was so active that he went breech at 36 weeks and back to head down again at 37 weeks (i had weekly scans from 28 weeks) and i didn't realise either time.

He's just as bad on the outside!!

I’m 24+5 and like someone else has said, I think my baby’s pattern is still developing but I have days where she is quite busy like today - probably have had 80+ movements today in clusters and then little periods of quiet - then some days it might be far less and spaced out.
