Bottle recommendations

Looking for bottle recommendations - I was leaning towards MAM bottles so I could sterilise in microwave and not need a steriliser however having watched a video on this I'm not sure if it's more of a faff? Also from having a look all of the MAM bottles appear to have pictures on them and seem a bit twee? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Do they not do plain ones?

I'm now wondering if Tommee Tippee bottles with a steriliser might be a better option?

Any thoughts/experiences/recommendations appreciated! x

MAM bottles are amazung. I don't find sterilising them a faff and pre covid it was great to be able to steralise them anywhere where there was a microwave.

They were also brilliant at helping relieve babies colic.

I'm not sure they do plain bottles but honestly its not been a factor for me in deciding bottle purchases. I'm not sure I could ever discount a bottle just because it had a cute image on it.

Also have Mam bottles and much easier than having to use a steriliser, you have to take bottles apart to wash them properly anyway so its not an extra faff!

Had TT with my DD but using MAM with DS, he is breastfed so had one bottle of formula at night now to help make the switch easier!

I use mam. You have to take all bottles apart to wash. We like them so does DS

We have used Mam for both dc and couldn’t fault them.

I prefer MAM to Tommee Tippee - easier to get properly clean.

Maybe the pictures on them are personal preference but I just find it strange that for a brand that's so innovative with their microwave sterilising the bottles look so old fashioned?

I’ve been looking at bottles too and I know what you mean about the print on the bottle. I just don’t like it! And I know it’s a bit silly to say. But I’ve heard good things about the bottles so would still probably give them a go

We use TT with steriliser and have been great for us 👍

We had Phillips Avent and the electric steriliser - you can do 6 at once which worked well for us.

@FudgeFlies I'm glad it's not just me, I hate the pictures on the bottle! 😂 Like you said though it's not enough to put me off using them but I'd rather have a bottle without a twee picture of a dolphin or teddy bear! 🙄

Does anyone know if all bottles work with the TT perfect prep machine or is it just certain ones?

I used MAM bottles and they worked well for my DD, although I have nothing to compare them too. She didn't suffer from colic, so not sure if this was due to the bottles being so great?

I didn't sterlise them in the microwave, though this is a really cool feature when going away etc. You do have to disassemble them when using an electric or cold water steriliser and there are a few parts (including rubbery ring that goes in the base).

I used the TT perfect prep machine and this also worked well with the MAM bottles. Only thing about the machine is that I found that it didn;t always dispense exactly the right amount of water whoch had me worried a bit (I tested it out). Not sure if I was being paranoid, as surely they must really test their products out? I continued to use it though, and all was well!

@SKP86 That's good to know they worked well for you. Is there a reason you didn't sterilise them in the microwave? For me that would be the main reason I'd get them?

We used Phillips Avent and Dr.Browns, sterilised them in microwave and used both with the TT perfect prep machine.

Well, I was a bit old fashioned and used milton cold water sterilisation (I just liked the cleanliness of it and the fact that the water lasted 24 hours so I could just drop things in there, and after 15 mins was done), though I don't think I'll be doing the same this time around (expecting baby number 2).

I used MAM bottles as my sister recommended them, and I had no issues with them, hence why I'll be using them again for this baby.

we have the phillips avent microwave steriliser so you def can sterilise Phillips ones in microwave, 4-5min if i remember correctly, also Dr Browns sells their own microwave steriliser so you can sterilise those too, just google it..we just used our phillips one..worked well for us..

@fool11 Oh ok, so still with a steriliser, that makes sense. The appeal of the MAM ones is one less bit of equipment!

I’m the same as you OP. I’ve decided to get TT bottles and Sterilizer. I’ve also got a prep machine.

I’ve just literally looked at the MAM bottles when collecting a prescription in boots, and thought why have them pictures! I’m going to get a couple of MAM bottles for out and about, so if I need extra bottle it can easily be done.

They can all be used with the prep machine from what I have read, and discussed with store assistants.

@DressingGown87 Yeah the pictures are random but then the appeal is not needing a steriliser. Just wish they did plain versions! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've gone for Dr Browns bottles as my sister used them and so did my SIL with her twins. Got them with a steriliser as a newborn baby set.

Decided against the tommee tippee prep machine for now as I want to try breastfeeding first. If I need to use formula and have a use for it regularly I'll get the prep machine. Otherwise good old boiling and cooling water until then!

I am going to get a bottle warmer though for expressed bottle milk

We used mam and found when visiting family they were helpful rather than lugging a steriliser and also when our tommee tippee steriliser broke at least we had an immediate back up plan though used them as dd got on with them best.

If you are happy to get a steriliser then I'd suggest looking in pound land or equivalent.. The have the older fashioned long plastic bottles which are very plain, no logos or pictures I think. My granny used them for her lambs! I know several mums who said their babies only liked those type

Plainer options would also be Dr browns, advent or something like born free the glass ones

It may be upto baby which they get on best with!
One last thing if you use dummies they are to be sterilised and it's useful to do that too with teethers now and then, also if using a breast pump at all that needs to be sterilised so you may find you end up needing one anyway

I used Dr. Brown's til DS was 1, because he had reflux. They were great for reflux / wind but a total pain to wash. And they leaked quite often.

Switched to MAM when he was 1 (had bought them before he was born, not anticipating reflux) and they're so, so much easier to clean. Also, no leaks. Although I don't bother to sterilize as he's older now. I'll hopefully also be using them for DC2 who is on the way.

I've heard TT are really bad for wind / reflux / colic so that's something to consider if you are buying them before baby arrives.

Started off with TT and quickly moved to MAM for the anti colic side of things but not having to take the TT steriliser everywhere was extremely useful.
