Cot Recommendations

Hello! We have finally nearly finished decorating the nursery ready for the arrival of our little girl. I have bought an Ikea 4 set of drawers and planning on putting a baby changing mat on top for space saving as only a box room!

Do you have any cot recommendations? I did see really affordable ones in Ikea, but wasn't sure if good enough quality? Don't have a particular budget, but don't want to overspend if not necessary!

Thanks! 😃

We got ours from IKEA, it’s almost 3 years old and still looks new. I’d definitely recommend Smile

I saw a Mothercare fabulous one then hunted it down second hand!

Second the recommendation for Mokee. Sturdy and not too expensive, they take a while to arrive though.

I just got a really sturdy one from George at Asda for £69 (about £90 with a mattress).

We went for the Tutti Bambini Rio cotbed (£160 including mattress) and can be used as a first infant bed as well, so more affordable in the long run. Think it can be used up to approx age 6. Comes with a changing table too.

We've just got ours from George Asda too - the Rafferty. Really good value mattress as well.

We got ours off Facebook Market place (Mamas & Papas), saved over £200 on the new price and it’s in really good condition, just need to get a mattress now. I think nursery furniture is really over to priced/value drops once second hand.

Definitely look at second hand. We got a lovely Mamas and papas cot bed in perfect condition for £25 off eBay. Need to get a mattress but still a great bargain. I agree buying brand new wooden cot is very over priced. I did splash out on a new next to me crib however! Didnt feel comfortable getting that second hand as it's fabric not easily washable.

My brother has ikea cots for his twins. They're nearly 3 and still going strong with it

I also got the Tutti Bambini Roma cot! It's beautiful, no regrets at all

Thank you for all your replies! I thought I was being silly looking at a high end cot on John Lewis!

Hadn't thought about buy, sell, swap websites and just purchase new mattress! Thanks!

Yes i have already made my mind up about a Snuzpod for our room and my Mum will be buying that for us as a gift 😃

Anyone not bought a cot? Thinking of saving expense and getting a travel cot with a good mattress. If you were allowed cots with drop sides (for when they are bigger and a ton weight and trying to lay them gently down hanging over the cot) but they are not allowed for safety.

Firstly, I really wouldn't go for a travel cot myself as even with a different mattress I don't think it would be comfortable or supportive long term but that's merely my opinion

If money were no object I think I would have gone for boori the style and quality is lovely but so expensive

Last time in laws got us a lovely white sleigh style one from kiddicare or similar place but the white shows all dirt and stained easily and it was very shake needing tightening every few weeks.. Its OK now after tinkering and as a bed for dd but I'd not get white again

IKEA seem fine if that's your budget, I think when we looked they were cot size and we were looking for a cot bed instead

This time we got a beautiful oaky cot bed from mamas and papas off ebay, about £60 and its lovely, great condition and obviously new mattress. It's more chunky and solid so I feel reassured it will last

Please can I ask those with Ikea cots, do you have to buy sheets from Ikea? I know with some of their beds, they are an odd size so have to buy their sheets!!

We did, just picked up a few when we bought the cot and mattress.
I’ve not tried any other sheets as the original ones we bought are still going strong, they wash and dry nicely so we haven’t needed to replace them

Bought the cot bed frame from Wayfair and got a good mattress from Eve. Think about a cot bed rather than just a cot. Will save you money in the long run when you can convert it into a toddler bed
