Scan advice?

Hello! First time poster here.

I am 24 weeks pregnant with my first child. I had the 20 week scan at my local hospital already, and while the sonographer was lovely and eventually able to tell me that baby is doing really well and determine all the essentials, I was in there nearly an hour - baby hardly moved at all, was all curled up squashed into one corner! But she assured me that baby is just very comfy and was being lazy. The position meant we were not able to be told the gender though.

I resigned myself to having a surprise baby and just getting neutral things and getting more when baby came, but my partner is really keen to know and has managed to get us a 3d scan booked for a few hours time. He is really excited to be able to see his or her little face and he wants to hopefully find out the gender this time.

So, without further rambling, has anyone got any tips to encourage this baby to move about during the scan and hopefully wriggle about a bit and not be curled up in the corner?! My partner is really keen for us to be able to find out the gender!

TIA

Not sure if it works or I just had an active baby but I used to eat haribo before a scan Smile - to be fair just because I loved haribo

I've heard sugary drinks and walking/moving about before the scan is good.
My baby is the opposite.....moving around too much! Twice I've had to be rescanned as baby was wriggling and spinning so much they couldn't get the measurements they needed.

Our baby's certainly like to test us lol. Good luck with your scan.

Sugar and an icy cold drink are all said to make baby move Smile good luck for your scan, how exciting!

Coffee is also meant to give baby a nudge, and doing star jumps.

Along with the cold drinks & sugar

Full fat coke worked for me! Please do let us know how it goes and what you're having

I know it's a petty point but it's the sex you are going to find out. Gender is a made up construct and the sooner we stop using that word the better!
Congrats on your pregnancy and I hope s/he isn't too shy today x

My DD was always face down in my placenta (anterior) so we had to have 2 attempts at our 4d scan!
The sonographer recommended going for a walk, drinking a bottle of cold coke (for the cold, fizz and bubbles), dancing around, doing star jumps.
These woke DD up but not enough to get a clear face shot (we already knew she was a girl from an earlier scan) but the image we did get is the exact image of how she sleeps now!

I was going to say what 022828MAN said. It’s sex! Gender isn’t something you can find out on a scan.

When I had private scans, they were good in allowing me to go for a walk around to get baby to move in to a better position. Some lucozade or coke always worked well for me!

100% this, it is a petty point

Yet pretty important at breaking down the boxes of sex stereotypes. The sooner we all stop subscribing to 'gender' the better for society as a whole.
