Worried about food poisoning

Hi Everyone,

I am 13 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I'm trying to be chill about it but every now and then something tips me over to the neurotic side - like right now!

I just ate some greek yoghurt that looked fine, it is well within date but the tub has been open for about 10 days max- but now I have stomach cramps and really gassy and bloated and freaking out that it was bad i've harmed my baby. I have a horrible first trimester of nausea all the time, but for the last week i've been feeling pretty good so I think that is what is making me so worried it is something I ate.

Anyone else had this before or have any words of advice/reassurance? Anything is appreciated!

Thanks!

If you do get food poisoning it's unlikely to hurt your baby- they'll keep taking nutrients from you while you're ill.

Lots of foods will upset your tummy while pregnant

I went to my GP with food poisoning concerns early in my second trimester. I had been sick for over 24 hours with nothing staying down including water. Her biggest concern was dehydration. She called the triage and they said if it was a virus or food poisoning it was more likely to be bad for me than baby. Advised me to keep sipping water and ring triage if it hadn’t gotten better by later that evening. It was all fine in the end. I kept drinking and did throw up occasionally but it passed. Ring up your GP if concerned and they will refer you if necessary. Better to put your mind at rest.

Oh really - that is helpful thank you. I haven't had anything do that yet, but good to know :)

Thanks for the reply! That is good to know - i'm not too worried about me as long as baby is ok :) I'll keep drinking. I'm glad you recovered ok!

I caught Norovirus at about 16 weeks - baby totally fine, midwives unconcerned. I couldn't keep water down and ate a bit of dry cracker in two days.

Just try your best to stay hydrated. Baby is well protected in there.

I had gastroenteritis at about 13 weeks pregnant, couldn't keep anything down, lived in the bathroom for two days and then my chest started hurting so after speaking to 111 they sent an ambulance- turned out my temperature had gone over 39c, blood pressure through the roof and my heart rate was 150 (thats why my chest hurt)
Had to go hospital to be put on a drip for two days but baby was fine! She was the reason I got so unwell because she was taking every last bit of nutrition from me!

She is now 15 months old and a monster lol baby will be fine, they are harder than you think!
