Cyclogest at 17 weeks

Hi everyone, just wanted to see if anyone has had a similar experience to me. So I am currently 17 weeks pregnant. Had my 12 week scan as well as a scan at 16 weeks and everything seems fine. I am also low risk.

Prior to this pregnancy I had 3 x miscarriages one after the other that didn't make it past 6 weeks. Had tests done and everyone was fine so this one seems to have stuck.

At 6 weeks I had spotting and have had this throughout on a daily basis. From week 8 I had red blood. This is normally there in the morning when I use the toilet. I would say around 5-10 drops falling into the toilet. The constipation didn't help but that has eased now. No pain with blood and it goes away after the morning and turns into brown spotting again.

I've had this throughout from week 8 to present (week 17). I went to see a consultant and they said it looks like it is coming from my cervix and not internally. So perhaps my cervix is weak I'm not sure. He said I could take cyclogest which can help with the bleeding. But it's my choice. In a nutshell he said to monitor it and see how it goes.

I am in two minds about taking it. Baby is fine, placenta is fine, I'm fine...just this odd bleeding every few days. Some studies have shown it's reduces the chances of miscarriage but there's insufficient data on this plus I'm not having a miscarriage so I don't want to think that way. Not to mention any side affects I will get from it.

What are your thoughts?

Hi I can't really comment but just wanted to say I'm taking cyclogest and havent had any side effects and its very easy to use

@Sazzy312 Aww congrats 😊 I'm just in two minds about it really. Don't want to meddle with something that's already going well. But then worried of the outcome if I don't do it.

I've taken cyclogest from 7 weeks when I had my first big bleed (which is a haemtoma). I'm now 14+4 weeks and I've been advised to stop at 16 weeks, so I don't really know about taking it at 17 weeks. I've had no side effects though and it's easy enough, I just put it in morning and night

Thank you @Frazzlerock they don't know what my bleed and where it is coming from so have told me I can take it if I want. Has your bleeding sorted itself out?

Hiya

I've been taking cyclogest since 15w, I'm now 24 weeks. I'm taking it has I have a short cervix so at-risk of late miscarriage/early labour. It seems to be working so far but I also have a cervical stitch. There doesn't seem to be any side effects and is easy to take. It is a pessary so needs to be inserted. Only issue I've had sorry for TMI is that it does have a tendancy to leak a little bit 🙈.

@mellymoo86 I've not had a big bleed for several weeks now. I had a smaller bleed over a week ago but it was old brown blood. I feel like the haematoma has drained itself out now but I won't know until I have another scan.

@Frazzlerock oh good I'm glad it's settled. Fingers crossed that it's gone for good now.

@JSLACEFAMILY I've heard about that being a reason which makes sense. They checked my cervix length and it was 3.2cm which they said was fine.

I guess them not finding a reason is giving me anxiety so I'm sort of stuck in limbo whether to take it or not without a good reason to.

@mellymoo86 tbh the consultants always like to give you a choice. I was told I could leave my cervix short and just monitor, have a stitch, have progesterone or have both. All were reasonable suggestions. We decided to go with the stitch and then the consultant on the day suggested I take the progesterone too.
I was told that the hormone helps to keep the uterus calm ( if that makes sense).

Go with your instinct but your not adding anything awful to your body it is just hormones xx

@JSLACEFAMILY Yeah my consultant said that it calms the uterus to and I asked why I needed it and they said I don't need it if I don't want it. In your case there was a reason for it. In mine they don't know where it's coming from and trying to just give me things for the sake of it. So that concerns me a little. I'd like to get to the route cause of it but can't.

I've come to the conclusion that my cervix is just overly sensitive and with constipation and extra hormones it's become even more fragile.
