Pregnancy

combined test results

I"ve posted before on a different topic. I'm a very anxious person and I've been finding pregnancy difficult. I found out last Thursday that my blood test results from the combined test are very bad. Way off the charts and indicates Downs Syndrome. They've done the harmony test but I won't get the results until end of next week or even later. I can't sleep, I'm so worried. The thing is though that the scan looks perfect. They said my NT is 1.6mm which has been confirmed by a private scan and I understand that's good from the GA (12+3). The NHS didn't look at anything else but there were no other soft markers when I had my private scan. They said that they couldn't clearly make out the nasal bone but said it looks like it was there (my uterus is retroverted and the baby wouldn't cooperate, hands in front of face and wrong position). Based on the bloods and my age (39), the NHS gave me a risk of 1 in 6. I couldn't believe it as I honestly thought that the severe anxiety was subsiding and everything would be ok. The private clinic (FMC in London) suggested I have a CVS but when they tried to do it, I kept jumping as it was so painful. Not initially when the needle went in but severely painful when the needle touched the uterus. I have a high pain threshold so it was quite strange. The consultant asked me to come back on Monday as she needs me to be calm and still. I'm so devastated by the whole thing. It's so sad to see this lovely little baby and think that it might not be well. If anyone has gone through something similar, I would love to hear from you.

Sorry your having this worry, my combine test results came back at 1-113 my age I was 38 at the time and my weight, I was sent for the harmony test the next day the lady who did my scan was very reassuring and my results came back 1-10,000 the NHS combine test from what I've read up on it is very inaccurate and the harmony test is 99.9% correct, as easy as it is for me to say try not to stress yourself before you need too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you

Hi sorry to hear you find yourself in this position, it really is the most difficult time, and one that you don't expect. I had a 1 in 13 chance just before Christmas and it hit me like a bolt from the blue as the scan had gone so well. I was also 39 so like you the background risk was very high. I was told that even if one measurement was out the risk score goes up massively for us 'oldies'. I decided just to opt for NIPT too which came back as 'highly unlikely'. At this point we had an amnio booked but decided against having it because of the low risk Nipt. It has been hard not knowing for absolute certainty that everything is OK and if you suffer with anxiety you may decide that you need to have a diagnostic test for peace of mind. I wish I could have relaxed a little more through my pregnancy. I will also add that this waiting is the worst part. Once you are armed with the knowledge of the results of your test you will feel more in control of the situation I'm sure.

Thanks for your replies. I managed to have the CVS and I should get the results today or tomorrow at the latest. I have honestly never felt more worried in my life. I have prepared myself for the worst but I can't help hoping for the best.

Just wondering if you got your NIPT test results back? I had mine done last tuesday (26th) but still awaiting my results?

Thanks for all your replies. I'm having some further examinations done next week. As my PAPP-A is so low (0.1), they have to keep everything closely monitored. It's such a strange time as I honestly never expected anything like this - though I probably should have considered it, given my age (39). I go between feeling OK about it and thinking all will be well to feeling very low. It's been such a long road to getting pregnant in the first place and I thought it would work out ok.
