Are we all stopping folic acid now? I completely forgot it's only up to 13/14 weeks. I've still been taking it, may do today and tomorrow then stop

Jumping on!

Re folic acid @Champoopapi I'm not stopping, but only because I have PCOS and the folic acid I take is in powder form with myo-inositol, which may help prevent me from getting gestational diabetes further down the line.

I do think if you're just taking folic acid you can stop it at the end of the first trimester, or if you're taking a pregnancy multi-vit, it doesn't matter if it still contains folic acid.

But hopefully someone else will come along with advice lol

@RunnerGirl123 yes mine is separate so I'll still be taking my iron, magnesium and b12.

My diet has improved a lot now too so I am no longer living off cheese and lollies 😏

@ChampooPapi I've just stopped taking my but that was because it was a big cause of my constipation and I was weighing up taking a laxative constantly and folic acid. Now I may have to go back on it depending on bloods etc.

I had physio yesterday for the start if Pelvic girdle pain. I'm pretty much guaranteed to get it Sad bu I've been given exercise and tips

RestorationInsanity · 30/05/2020 09:33

I asked at the hospital yesterday and they said fine to stop, so I'm just going to finish the tub I've got, which will be another week or so, and then stop.

RestorationInsanity · 30/05/2020 09:34

Ah @roro87 sorry to hear that. My osteo has reopened, which I'm delighted about as I normally see him every 8 weeks because of sciatica and a disc problem and he warned me if I ever got pregnant, I'd need to keep on top of my back pain. Have been struggling since week 7....

peachypetite · 30/05/2020 09:38

I stopped. Followed the nhs advice that says
400 micrograms of folic acid every day – from before you're pregnant until you're 12 weeks pregnant

Report
ChampooPapi · 30/05/2020 09:41

@roro87 yes that is hard to suffer with, really bloody hard actually. Thank goodness the nhs is slowly opening up again to the non covid, and also that private practices can begin soon especially for physio ect

@peachypetite yes I'll just stop I think after today now, I was on a double dose so one less pill

I was wondering if anyone has had confirmation of their 16 week midwife appointments being face to face or a phone call?

Mine was written in the book as a phone call but she left a message saying it would be face to to face now at the local hospital.

I will definitely be calling 48 hours before though to avoid the inevitable turning up physically only to be called on my mobile 🙄

I got a letter saying it will be a phone call at some point that week.

Morning ladies, lovely to hear all scans went well yesterday,

Harmony test complete just a wait on the results.

Anyone know what we can take for hay-fever?

Haha thanx for the laughs this morning I had never heard or experienced fanny daggers 😂 obviously your pain isn't funny. But what a funny phrase.

My midwife text to say she will phone me for my 16 week appt. Which is strange because, she told me she would be checking my blood preasure at every appt. As of history of pre eclampsia in the family.

Oh I got a 3rd scan yesterday how cute and squishy to out babies look at 13 weeks.

@Pe4nutsmum I'm not sure medicine wise but what I've been doing is local honey it really works now just depends how hard it is to get by you. I have a spoon of day and keeps all the symptoms away. I asked my doctor if I could have it as lots of conflicting info but she assured me it was ok but maybe safer to double check first. I have it on my porridge

@ChampooPapi thanks again for keeping us organised. Jumping on new thread.

I had no idea you were supposed to stop taking folic acid. But if it helps get rid of constipation I’m keen!

As a reminder, anyone a due date buddy of mine now I shifted to 03.12.20?

Report
RestorationInsanity · 30/05/2020 10:34

@ChampooPapi mine will definitely be phone (23rd June). I've even been given my blood test forms for 28 and 34 weeks as I won't see a midwife until 28 weeks.

I can't believe your pregnancy pillows arrived already, did you only order that? I added clothes to my order & it's not coming till the 12th June.

I had very low iron levels with my 1st pregnancy, so had to take folic acid all the way through. I was planning to do the same this time, just incase, is there any reason not to?

I went & looked at the pushchair today, it was beautiful, so I purchased it. So in love, cannot wait to use it

peachypetite · 30/05/2020 12:27

Yep just the pillow. I have understood that there’s not much point taking the folic acid after the 12 weeks because the neural tube has closed, obviously if you’ve been advised to continue for whatever reason that’s a different matter

@ChampooPapi - I haven't had confirmation about my 16 week appointment but it's not actually until 17+3 so I don't think I'll know for at least another week. I'll call them a couple of days before if I don't hear.

I have no idea about vitamins. I've just been taking regular Boots pregnancy vitamins, which the midwife said was fine. I knew nothing about stopping! I'll check the Boots website when it's working.

@kkr168 - to be fair, my pillow had an estimated delivery date of 4th June so it might come earlier for you?

I enjoy that this thread is called 'bump time' -- I still look like I ate too much pizza. Hopefully by the end of the thread I shall be recognisably pregnant!
