Movements suddenly much stronger- should I be worried?

Apologies if this is a stupid question but I'm a FTM and no idea what to expect. I'm 30+5 and over the past two days it's seems like my baby's movements have gone from general rolling where you could sometimes see some movement in my stomach, to her frantically moving my whole stomach like a plate of jelly and it's actually really forceful- sometimes my entire stomach will move at once and it seems like she's breaking out! It makes me feel a little queasy as it feels like everything is being pushed everywhere in there.

Is this just normal movement now that she's bigger or should I be worried? I googled it (I know I shouldn't have 🙈) and now worried it could be a sign she's in distress with the cord or having a type of seizure?

Haha I’m 31+1 and experiencing similar. Feels like there’s a little alien in there!

I think it's a change in the pattern of movements - can you call your midwife for reassurance?

@Birdy1991 I'm sorry I didn't mean to worry you or anything! I'm just living in this 'studying movement' anxiety bubble and it seems so much stronger and quicker than 2 days ago. I don't know if it's because I'm thinking it's just always going to stay as cute wriggles I can only feel inside- and it's actually a fact that at this point it's normal for them to feel like they're breaking out? I've never done this before 😅 and my midwife is useless and never answers!

I just rang triage to check and she said she wasn’t concerned and that she may be changing position or it might be to do with a growth spurt, I don’t know if that helps you at all x

Thanks @Birdy1991 I've just rang my labour triage and they want me to go up to pop me on the monitor- she said any change of movements that's not in pattern they just like to check!

Any change in movements should be checked. If they lessen or increase.

Don't worry about over reacting or wasting their time. This is your child. It doesn't bare thinking about if you put the worries of someone else over your baby.

Go get checked and please let us know how you get on.

With my second one I was up at the hospital a lot. The midwives were often horrible about it. I pointed out it was my child and things hadn't gone too well the first time and I didn't want to risk them and eventually they shut up Angry.

@Birdy1991 thanks for asking- they popped me on the monitor and she's fine. Did have to be on the ctg a bit longer because her heart rate was a little all over the place because she had another huge squirmy session 😅 the midwife said that actually Up to 32 weeks a pattern of movement can change and it was likely she was shifting position.

They did say though that it definitely
Isn't just decreased movement you should go in for though it's any change to 'your normal' and that I made the right decision to get checked so I didn't feel stupid. They're honestly so lovely in there!

That’s really good to hear. My midwife said a similar thing with regards to changing position! Makes sense. Enjoy your weekend 😊

Hi OP, just saw your update and pleased all is OK. It's definitely worth ringing up if you're worried about any change in movement.

I was just coming on to say that I was told that, although most babies have a pattern established from 28 weeks, most babies movements will continue to increase and change in intensity up to about 32 weeks before remaining at that level until the end of the pregnancy.

Glad all is well and it is refreshing to see a midwife tell a patient that any change needs checking as so many people just think it is a decrease in movements. I know if at least one baby who died as the poor mother didn't know any change needed checking and her baby was moving a lot more and more frantically than usual.
