5+5 cramping and spotting

Hi everyone,

Probably just overly concerned but at what point does cramping mixed with spotting become a bad thing? I'm having some minor spotting literally a couple of drops. Thought it is accompanied by some cramping which can sometimes be quite sharp. At what point should I be concerned and probably ring my GP? Probably just thinking in to it but I'm terrified! Thank you x

GP would probably advise waiting and watching. EPU can't see much that early.

Unless you're getting sharp / stabbing pains or shoulder pain (indicative of ectopic), I really think it's a case of waiting, unfortunately.

Many women go on to have normal, healthy pregnancies, despite having huge bleeds.

Good luck OP

What @pooopypants said ☝🏻

It's quite normal to have cramps and light spotting. Time to worry is when cramps feel like period pain and spotting is full on bleed.

I can understand your concerns and worry, I'm very early on too and just wish I could fast forward to when I get a scan.

Thank you both! Much appreciated advice, I did assume I'd have to wait a bit before worrying. Nothing too sharp at the minute just uncomfortable and sometimes painful.

I'm debating booking an early scan for a couple weeks time to ease the anxiety/ find out if there's anything to worry about. If I'm still seeing an increase of weeks on the clear blue digital that's surely a good thing?

Absolutely - increasing hcg levels in urine and HPT progression is a very good sign.

Managing anxiety is really important and if you feel that you will struggle to cope then an early scan is a good idea.

In the meanwhile stay positive, and consider your pregnancy to be healthy and viable xx

Hi, I just wanted to say I would check it out if I were you. I Had ectopic with rising Hcg and spotting. Not trying to scare you but why don't you Ring EPU, at 5weeks and 6days they should at least be able locate gestacional sac.

Just to share my story-I just found out yesterday I am pregnant so I am 4+2 today. I am bleeding a bit more than just few drops sadly :( Had missed miscarriage in Nov 19 and ectopic in Nov 14. In between had my lovely now 4.5year old daughter :) Trying for baby no 2 for almost 3 years. Really hope this isn't another miscarriage.... but aware that with cramping and bleeding- it doesn't look good.

@Anab2010 I'm really sorry to hear about your loses and struggles Sad I'm just a little worried to waste their time incase it's nothing but also very worried it is something.

I'm getting mixed responses at the minute, some people saying id be able to see the sac etc and others saying id see nothing so I'm unsure x

@LouMorgan97 from my past experience they certainly expect so see the sac at around 5.5weeks or if your hcg levels are above 1,500.

Hope all goes well for youSmile

I've had x5 pregnancies - x4 of which ended in MC and this is what I've learned from massively reading up on the subject and going to mc clinic.

Cramping and spotting is statistically likely to be nothing serious (I didn't have cramping or spotting in any of mine, weirdly. And my friends who had cramps and bled all had successfully pregnancies). It's likely to be implantation bleeding or an irritated cervix. EPU will probably suggest wait and see and offer to scan at 6.5 weeks.

If it were me, I'd wait until 7 weeks for a reassurance scan. You're much more likely to see a heartbeat etc. So less chance you'll be asked to come back.

The odds are in your favour that everything is ok. So just do your best to relax (haha haha - as if it's that easy) and see what the EPU says.

@AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings thank you so much! I'm sorry to hear about your loses. Fingers crossed for a good result next time round. I may ring my gp to inform them of the pregnancy and then book a private scan for the 7-8 week mark all being well. I think with this being my first pregnancy I really have no idea what to expect Sad
