Car seat from a friend

Hi all, I've been offered a Mothercare travel system from a friend. I know that general advice is to buy new car seat to be certain it's safe but wonder if second hard is alright as long as I know previous owners and they got it new and had no issue? What are your thoughts?

If it came from your friend who got it new, and she’s confirmed it’s not been in any accidents then I’d think it was fine, I’d certainly use it

Personally I wouldn't. But based on having done car seat training and watching those training videos... When I was trained he said that even am emergency stop can actually affect a car seat

If you are only using it infrequently, it's not been around smoke before, clean and know the owner and trust them and you feel comfortable then that's your choice. Babies are in infant carriers for a year to 15/18 months ish so weigh up how often it'll be used and if you are using it on the system then you may feel fine in the car but advice is for new car seat and new mattress

We are in a better financial position this time and dh hoping hell be driving soonish so I'm looking at one which goes up to 3 or so rear facing longer as that's safer but also as I didn't use the car seat on our system so see little point in infant carriers for £100 difference
