Extrachorionic haemorrhage in pregnancy

Hi there

First-timer on here but could really do with hearing people’s experience of Extrachorionic haemorrhage in pregnancy.

I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant with my second pregnancy. At 4 weeks I started having some light ‘pinkish’ bleeding which the midwife said was probably implantation bleeding. As it continued, I was booked in for an early scan but because I was only 5 weeks, no heartbeat was detected. I then had to wait a week to go back, with the bleeding continuing. Luckily at my 6 week scan a heartbeat was detected, but also a small ECH. I was told I would probably absorb the blood or maybe lose a bit more blood, before it stops. The very next day the bleeding intensified and became a lot heavier. Obviously this was worrying so I went back for a further scan to check everything was fine. It was and they could no longer detect the ECH, which is great news.

I’ve now been bleeding heavily for about 4 days and was wondering if anyone had had a similar experience and how long I can expect this to go on for. Although I’ve been reassured that the baby is growing normally, I’m obviously anxious whilst this is going on, especially as I didn’t experience anything like this with my first.

Thank you in advance for any reassurance!

I had one in my first pregnancy and it was al ok, despite being extremely alarming. Can't tell you how long it will last and it might stop then start again which is scary. But good luck, you should be fine 👍🏼

Thank you so much. I’m really hoping that everything will be ok. Did you get scanned regularly to check things were fine? I’m wondering how long I now leave it until I go back to the midwife with concerns.

Have you not told the mw that the bleeding has gotten heavier? Do it asap

I went to the EPU a number of times for scans to check I was ok but they didn't actually schedule me extra.

If you are concerned absolutely go along, even though things are a bit trickier now.

I had one although bleeding didn't start until 18 weeks. I spotted for 10 weeks, had 4 big bleeds, after 23 weeks (viability) was told I'd need to be admitted for 24h following each one and scans every 3 weeks. By 28 weeks, it had disappeared and I had no bleeding afterwards. DS is now almost 5 months 🙂

I was told the location makes a difference - mine was right in front of my cervix so bled more but was ultimately 'safer' than one say behind the placenta

Hi yes, I’ve been calling her regularly. She said it’s probably the ECH working it’s way out but to come back to her tomorrow if it hasn’t changed and they’ll schedule another scan. I’m trying to remain positive that the bleeding is ECH related but it’s worrying And exhausting to still be bleeding after so long.

Hi,
I've got an ECH, blood in my womb.
Started at 5 weeks still there at 15.
I've been told that the ECH could cause my waters to go and has no put me on progesterone, I'm already on aspirin.
My placenta is also low lying.
I'm just wondering if anyone has had anything similar?
I've had a previous lost at 20 weeks and preterm birth at 29 weeks.
I can't go through loosing another baby.
My bleed has no correlation, it can be super heavy, light period or spotting.
The size was 10 days previous 37x71
And today it was 61x18
Thank you.
