High NT & Abnormality Correlation

Hi all,

I am 30 years old and 12 weeks 6 days pregnant with my first child. We just had our nuchal translucency scan and it came alarmingly high at 5.1. The heartbeat, nasal bone and the blood results were all fine. Even though our Harmony results were clear as well, we decided to (and were recommended) to do CVS. The first set of the results came clear thankfully but we are still waiting for the second set which are due in about 2 weeks.

Does any of you have experience with the second set of CVS results coming positive? I was told that these chromosomal conditions are marginally rare than trisomy 13, 18 or 21. If these do come clear (really, really hoping they will!) they will be checking if all is well with the heart at week 16 and then later at week 20 we can finally get all clear hopefully.

I was just wondering if anyone has had the same/similar situation recently and how did it effect their pregnancies? I am happy to hear both sides of the spectrum, good or bad. It would just be nice to see if there is anyone out there I can talk to since it is difficult for other people around me to relate...

Many thanks in advance!

Similar thing happened to us. NY wasn't quite as high but bloods were bad and the risk ratio at 12 week scan was horrendous. It was a really traumatic time. Had CvS and both parts of that came back clear. We were also advised to not rely on harmony or similar blood test because it wouldn't pick up syndromes like turners etc.

I hope you are doing ok - the wait is very very hard.
Fingers crossed for good results

Sorry I meant to say - as first pregnancy we had planned to keep gender a secret but I found the wait for the test results I was becoming a bit disconnected with the pregnancy so having the gender revealed in the fill report has massively helped me 'bond'

@Fredsgirl19 thanks so much for your quick response! Glad to hear that your CVS came back clear. Did you go on to have a normal pregnancy and birth later? We found out that we're having a boy and I do agree - it helps you actually start imagining your baby.

Hello!I had the exact same situation. All CVS results came back clear and have since had 2 heart scans to confirm that this isn't the reason for the high fold. All scans have been fine and am now 32 weeks.

@Fredsgirl19 I did the exact same thing about finding out the gender.

Wishing you all the best, it's a horrible time, I remember it so clearly. xx

Following this because had 12 week scan today. NT high at 4.3 but previously had low risk harmony results. Am in late 30s. Currently trying to weigh up whether to have invasive testing / whether we want to take our changes and proceed with pregnancy 🙁

@Amymone I am sorry to hear that you're in a similar situation. I too had normal harmony results but was highly recommended to go on with CVS. Its a completely personal decision but if it is any consolation, the procedure was very quick (the pricking part took only about 2 minutes) and if you look away, concentrate on something else it ends up being quite painless. It is more uncomfortable than painful in my opinion. I rested for the rest of that day and the next day felt completely normal again. Depending on what week you are, you can also choose to continue without CVS for now and see if you would like to do Amnio later on. I hear it is very similar to CVS.

I had my 16 week scan yesterday and thought I'd send an update here. Thankfully everything is looking normal and there are no more worry signs. The nuchal fold seems to have dropped down to a normal level too. Even though we seem to be in the clear now, we will be reassured (hopefully) at our 20 week scan. For now the worries are gone though 🥰 I really hope other people's results come back like mine! Sending you all love!
