Hiya!

Sorry, there will be a few of these posts asking about different hospitals.

Can anybody tell me any recent experiences of Barnet Hospital - pre ante natal care and births. Quite nervous about experiencing lots of the care without my partner being allowed to join me.

I am an anxious first time mum, trying to find the right hospital for my care (especially during these uncertain times).

Any experiences will help?

I’m at Barnet. I’m 16 weeks so my only experience so far is the dating scan. I was worried about not having my husband there but the majority of the staff were lovely and really put me at ease. The only person who I would fault was the sonographer who was very quiet and less chatty than any of the other staff so I felt like I was constantly asking her questions.

I’m interested to see what others say about birth and postnatal care. I’m considered high risk so I’ve already been told I’ll be in the labour ward not the birth centre.

I am also at Barnet and have found the staff nothing but friendly! Smile I am 21 weeks and so far so good!

Not sure what will happen about touring the labour ward or the birth centre but I am very happy to be at Barnet as I have had friends and family who have had their babies there and all have had nothing but good experiences.

Hope this helps!

(I'm also a first time mum!)

Hi all. Also at Barnet. Do you know if they are still delivering antenatal classes given the situation and how to book onto them?

Just checking...is the maternity section here for this hospital separate from the main hospital? What are the rules in Barnet regarding appointments and scans? I assume no partners?

@newmumtobe66 the maternity area is part of the main hospital (no separate entrance). My husband wasn't allowed with me for our 12wk scan. Not sure if that has changed

Oh I thought it had a separate bit as I saw it had an entrance on the side which said maternity ward?

Anyone else tell me what their experience of Barnet Maternity is like?

Still no partners for scans - I had my 20 week last week and she wrote the gender down for my partner and I to read together (parking is free at the moment so he waited outside).

@newmumtobe66 The separate entrance is the birth centre - most woman attend the Wellhouse women’s centre for all scans and appointments during pregnancy which is inside on the second floor and can only be reached walking through the main hospital

I had my antenatal care at Barnet in 2017 - the maternity section on the side with the separate entrance is where you go when you're actually in labour. All antenatal care is in the maternity day unit in the main hospital.

I have no complaints at all about my antenatal care - I felt I was very well looked after. Unfortunately when it was my time to give birth, the maternity unit was full and they had to send me to their sister hospital in Hampstead for the actual birth.

I'm guessing this was a very rare event so wouldn't let it put me off!
