I saw a MW today and I asked her to check to see if DS2 has engaged (as I thought he might have done last week) and she said he is about 4/5 engaged, she could only feel a small amount of his head and he is firmly wedged in my pelvis. I know now that I will not carry this baby much longer..

how many other dcs do you have? And were you early with them?

I have 3 children, all born prematurely, DS was 35 weeks, DD1 was 31 weeks and Dd2 was 33 weeks.

sparkly.... engagement does not always mean early labour

i know you have a history of prem labour, but engagement not always an indicator..

did your other babies engage and then labour start shortly after?

he might be unengaged next time you go...

or remain engaged for several weeks,

DD was partially engaged from 34 weeks, and i carried her until 40 weeks

ooh, not long to go for you, then!
Good luck

You never know - he could easily reverse back out! Maybe he just finds it comfy in there. Try not to worry too much and good luck.

Sounds like you could go for a scan to be reassured/checked over.

How are you feeling sparkly? Are you nervous or excited? or both

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 12/09/2007 14:12

have you packed all your bags?

I am surprised you are not consultant led after having had 3 prem births already. I had two and was with the consultant once a fortnight for my third.

I would ask the MW or GP to refer you for a scan or make an appointment with the consultant to get it checked. It may be you are already in slow labour and they can possibly delay it for a couple of weeks

I am seeing the consulants (I have 2 lol) next week and have a scan. I thought he had engaged last week, and I was right. He is moving well and the monitoring they did today showed no contractions (well just one at 30% but they weren't worried)

I am nervous tbh! I really don't want this baby yet, I want to get to 36 weeks

I am almost excited for you - I am the opposite - having been on par with Natalie Jane in the labour stakes.

I am consultant led, but I went into to find out about my diabetes, as I have had no luck getting hold of anyone on the phone. They said that I don;t have to start the insulin YET! but I asked the MW just to check for me to see if he had engaged, I think she was quite that he had indeed engaged at 32 weeks

Our local hospital has a day assessment unit where you can just drop by with no appointment after 28 weeks. They will monitor and scan you if necessary. I went on a two day basis with my first and weekly with my second and not at all with my third since I was pre-eclamptic borderline for all three. They even did Dopplers.

It was at the day assessment unit that they discovered I was in labour with my second at 32 weeks and he was born footling breech 40 mins later.

thats where I went today They monitored me and he is happy and moving well. Only one contraction while I was on it and like I said they didn;t seemed too worried.

With my third they told me to expect her to arrive at 30 weeks and have my bags packed. I had to repack the baby clothes twice since she arrived on her due date and was full term....the doll sized clothes would have been no use to her.

Good luck

I put all newborn stuff in my bag, because I was so sure that I would get further this time, after discovery that I have a blood clotting disorder, and have been injecting Clexane daily. Put a pile of preterm stuff on the chest of drawer just in case, for Dh to bring in if needed. I just can't let go of my dream that I might get further, not yet anyway!

I think I might have just had a contraction but not sure.. i am so scared.. I saw how poorly dd1 was in SCBU and how tiny Dd2 was.. not sure if I can face it.. I am hoping that its was just irritably because the girls are playing up..

Awwww hun, I know where you are coming from. All of my 1st 4 were preemies, dd4 was the earliest at 33 weeks. I was contracting on and off with ds1 until I had the section at 37 weeks and in a permenant state of panic.

Have the consultants talked about possible steriod injections?

Report
sparklygothkat · 12/09/2007 20:29

had the steriods at 28 weeks

Ok good you know 32 weeks is not that bad as far as maturity and the steroids will help with the lungs. Even a couple more weeks would be good so relax, please take it easy. Is dh around much? Friends, neighbours?
