So I'm 12 weeks pregnant. I've been on an intense anti nausea diet including bread, pasta, pizza and curry over the last 3 weeks. I don't seem to be able to take on any veggie (I'm vegetarian). Do you have any trick to actually get some nutrients into a nausea diet? I'm desperate to not take on more weights than needed but also would love to be healthy for my baby. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Maybe you could blend some veggies into a smoothie? I found in the early days when my nausea was bad I could manage to drink better than eat, so I blended up cucumber and spinach into a smoothie with other fruit, you couldn’t taste it at all! Even sipping on it throughout the day might help.

Are you saying all you can bear to eat is bland carbs and curry?

Could you get someone to make you a pizza topping with peppers, onions, courgettes and tomatoes, cooked down to a thick sweet sauce and pureed to spread on the pizza base. (You might not face making it yoruself but eating it could be OK.)

Have you tried banana milkshake or fruit smoothies?
How about healthier snacks like Hippeas sweet chilli puffs?
Could you eat a plain vanilla sponge cake made with half almond flour?

Can you eat wholemeal toast or seedy granary bread at all? One of those toasted with a thin layer of cream cheese or peanut butter would be healthy.

If everything else turns your stomach, just try to chew on those gummi bear vitamins every day, have abowl of something like rice krispies which has lots of added vitamins, and stick to what your body says it wants.

Quorn nuggets taste just like McDonald’s chicken nuggets but are healthier!

@milliefiori @Grainedesesame you should NOT be taking vitamins containing Vitamin A when pregnant or trying to conceive. So not good advice on the gummy vitamins unless they do a pregnancy formulation?!

Hi @OP
With this pregnancy my nausea was worse than ever. I couldn't stand veggies in any form, or fruit. Really little I could stand. I think crunchy carrots were ok , plum tomatoes, and sour plums. Sometimes grapes, but rarely. I didn't worry too much as I knew it will all get better after first trimester. I was taking pregnancy vitamins just in case as I knew my diet was poor due to nausea and sickness.

I remember there were days when I could only stand boiled potatoes. And also those I struggled to keep down. Couldn't stand normal pasta at all, I liked a bit rice noodles with tomato sauce that I made and was sour. What days!

You'll get better after a bit hopefully. It's a trying thing and eat what you can to have some energy.

Thank you everyone. That's actually super helpful! And also strangely making me feel less lonely in the process. I will try smoothie and Cereal tonight :)

Have a look at the slimming world 'fakeaway' recipes. They've helped me when I've been craving something naughty x

@goingroundagain - I didn't know that, so thank you. Much safer to take a pregnancy vitamin mix, I guess.

Carrots with dip, tomato bruschetta, pizza with lots of veggies, carrot grated into bolognese, burrito with lots of lettuce?!

Porridge with yummy toppings is my healthy comfort food. Peanut butter and one square of dark choc broken up is my favourite 😋 or honey, cinnamon and blueberries. Feels stodgy and tastes amazing whilst still having plenty of fibre and healthy fats. Bonus if you can add some chia seeds or similar.

Are you still eating vegetarian?

If not some proper stock/bone broth could be used to cook your pasta and is full of goodness.

Banana and nutella smoothie?

Can you tolerate tomato based pasta sauce? All sorts of veg can be blended and hidden in there.

Fresh ginger and squeeze lemon juice hot drink for nausea and vitamin c? Squeeze wedge of lemon, lime or orange in your water?
