After a mmc with my first pregnancy at 40 earlier this year, I would love to hear any success stories of any over 40s who have achieved a successful pregnancy! Xx

No idea if I'll achieve one... I achieved one at 39 and currently am 24 weeks (41 this time) with no issues that I know of so far. I will let you know in 15 weeks. I know loads of people 40/41 who have had successful pregnancies though.

I had a mmc at 40 and then had our beautiful dd at 41. I'm 17 weeks pregnant again, aged 44.
My dsis also had her first at 41, and a lot of my friends have had babies in their 40s.

Ah massive congratulations @Rubyroost and @Helbelle17. Those message literally made me smile so much! I know I can get pregnant (only took 6 weeks to conceive) but it has taken a little while to get back to normal after the mmc. Thank you so so much to you both for replying! Sometimes you don’t hear the good stories as much as the sad. My own mam had my sister at 41 after a mmc and that was 24 years but I was starting to doubt myself a bit. Wishing you both the healthiest of pregnancies xx

Awww thanks for the congrats. Tho there were some sad stories on the way there... This is my fifth pregnancy and I have a toddler.
But, I know people who have had even sadder journeys to get there and their losses took place before 35, so it's not always about age.
Good luck. I had a mmc at 38 and then got pregnant again at 39. Keep trying and I'm sure it'll happen for you x

Also doubting yourself is normal, after my first mmc I never thought I'd conceive and I did. Then after a tfmr at 40 I really thought that was it and I had no chance.. But all is okay so far. I used to read about people miscarrying and then having kids ans thinking that would never happen to me. It's all just a matter of getting the right egg, that's all.

SIL is 35 weeks pregnant with her first at 43. No medical intervention to achieve it.

Wow @Pipandmum that's impressive. I was feeling ancient at 41 but 43, 45 and 46- not that I'm saying it's ancient, I don't mean it like that... Just in terms of society.
Most people I know have been 40 or 41.

@Rubyroost sometimes you just need some positive, sensible words to keep you going. I’m really sorry about your losses. You have been really brave to keep going. It’s just about getting a good egg.
@Pipandmum that’s amazing! I don’t have anyone really around me at the moment that I know who has done this at my age so that reassured me a lot! Thank you!
@Louise91417 Thank you! Christmas in your house sounds like it is going to be brilliant this year!
@ThunderboltandLightning Congratulations to her! Hope she is having a healthy pregnancy.
After my mmc I seemed to have some retained tissue that caused a huge bleed worthy of an a&e rush. At my check up afterwards, the doctor was really negative about being 41 and I think I just had a bit of a wobble. Your stories have really helped. Thank you.

@Liissaa bloody doctor!!
A consultant spoke to me at the fetal medicine centre when my baby was very poorly at 13 weeks. I never wanted a penus near me again at that point, she said I hope you keep on trying. I was 40 at the time and her words meant a lot, I'll never forget. If a consultant in fetal medicine advises it the likelihood of getting pregnant must be relatively good, ignore that stupid doctor.

Out of my NCT group of 8 couples, at least two women are in their early 40s. They've both very recently given birth to gorgeous healthy babies - their first, in both cases. Smile

I had dc1 the week I turned 41, then dc2 at 43. Got pregnant easily, all fine. I have five friends who all had babies in their forties , two after being told they would never conceive naturally (one already had a baby from IVF, the other had thought she would remain childless).

I had Ds at nearly 41. Friend had her 3rd at 46 and another friend after years of unsuccessful ivf decided at 49 to give up.
Her and her dh went on holiday and 9 months later at the age of 50 gave birth to their dc

Me. I’ve been more fertile in my 40s than any other point! Had a son at 35 then nothing so thought he’d be only child. Pregnant again unexpectedly at 40, sadly miscarried at 10 weeks and again thought my baby days were over. Amazed to again unexpectedly get pregnant at 41 and am now 26 weeks and due in March when I’ll be 42. All going great. I’m so much more ready and psychologically prepared for this baby being older and wiser! Hope it works out for you x

OP- when I was in hospital having my first baby at 39 the midwives were asking me if I wanted more children. I said I'd like to but now I think I'm too old and time is running out. Every single one of them told me I'm being silly and that compared to other mums I'm very young. Apparently it's very common now to have babies your 40ies, not uncommon to have them at 44-45 or even older. I know chances are lower than when you are younger but like a previous poster said, it's not always about age.

There is a lot of negativity around fertility when over 40 and it can be really annoying. I went to see my gp after we'd been trying for 6 months for this one and she did the basic blood test to check that I wasovulating but she said that as I was very anxious about it all, she'd prefer not to send us for any other tests until we'd been trying a year. She said it's more likely the stress that was stopping us conceiving. She was basing that on DH and I's health and fitness and the fact that we had had a healthy baby 2 years previously.
Turns out she was right. Took the pressure and here we are!
I love being an older mum. I'm well established in my career so can work 2 days a week and be paid enough to get by on that. I am confident in my decisions and feel that I've done everything I want to do for now, so can focus on our wonderful dd.
Everything crossed for you.

40 and currently 31 weeks pregnant. No problem conceiving are all - basically first month of trying after stopping the pill and everything has been well so far. A few problems and a ton of extra appointments - but not age related - mainly relating to complications in previous pregnancies when I was in my twenties, and a low lying placenta!

Had dd six weeks off my 41st birthday. Easy conception and pregnancy (apart from the nausea).

My family tree is full of pregnancies post 40. My Grandmother, Great Aunts x 3, 2 x Aunts and Great Grandmother (she was 46 when her last made an appearance) all had children into their 40s as did my dh's Grandmother.

The consultant and midwife I saw in my last pregnancy both thought I'd be back with another one. Certainly I was the only person who brought up my age last time and the consultant laughed and said I wasn't old. We're thinking about trying for a 3rd after Christmas and if we succeed I'll be 43 when they arrive.

Agreed there is negativity and dismissal of concerns. Also fearmongering and overmedicalisation. However, on to the good side I had two mcs at 40 but then a successful pregnancy. I think you just have to expect it to take longer and to be prepared for mcs but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

@Liissaa I have never been made to feel like I'm too old by any professionals in the nhs. In fact no one has batted an eyelid. That doctor is an arse wipe, please ignore
