Hello everyone, I am new and scared. I think i am pregnant!!!! Last period was 9th July, then i had 11 days of spotting. Last tuesday night and wednesday i took 3 norethisterone pills as i had some spotting and took them to put my period off to enjoy a weeks holiday, something didnt feel right though so i took a pregnancy test thursday and it was positive, i thought maybe the pills had given me a false positive, however from the reading on internet and asking pharmacist who said he couldnt be 100% certain but didnt think those those pills would give a false positive. I cant see GP until next week.
I tested today and still positive, been feeling sicky at times and bloated but not much, dates put me at 5+ 6, very confused and scared, as this will be our first and i'm 39!
I know i need to find out for sure about these pills!

I did find this on the internet:

Would taking 10mg of norethisterone daily for two weeks give a false pregnancy test result?
Taking a progestogen such as norethisterone should not interfere with a pregnancy test. Most modern pregnancy tests are very sensitive and specific and are not affected by hormonal medication.

Hi marg, congrats on what appears to be a positive test!
I'm sure they'll be people here who know whether or not the pills can give false positives for certain, but the quote you've put on your OP looks quite certian, so CONGRATULATIONS!

we will be really happy if i am pregnant, just have this nagging thing about the norethisterone giving a false positive, maybe because i didnt believe i would get pregnant! if that makes sense.

Dr was supposed to be ringing me back friday pm to answer my question but never did, i will make sure i see or speak to a dr tomorrow, thanks for your reply

Congratulations - and don't worry about being 39 if that is a concern; I am 39 and about to have my 2nd - the midwife, doctor etc hardly raised an eyebrow about my age, 39 is not considered old to have a baby these days.

Congratulations - it looks as though you may well be pregnant.

Don't worry about your age - I had my third at 41.

Could NHS direct help you?

Yeah, don't panic about being 39.
My first baby's due in October, and I'll be 39 in November.
Congratulations!

Pg test pick up a hormone called hcg and hcg is only ever present in pg! so cant see the pills having anything to do with!

Thanks all, NHS were not 100% sure but pretty certain that the norethisterone would not show a false positive, some fertility drugs can i think.

Been feeling very bloated and uncomfy today, slight pain right side ? ovary??

blimey i am so worried something will go wrong now, will see GP asap i think
