I have gestational diabetes and yesterday at 36wks had a scan to reveal baby is quite big at 7lbs 12oz. Bearing in mind I still have another c.4 weeks, any ideas as to how accurate these measurements are? Thanks.

Not that accurate - I had a scan at 38 weeks and they told me my ds would be around 10lb - arrhh!!! He was actually 8 lb 11 - much better!

A couple of people from my antenatal class say that their scans were spot on and got the weight exactly right, but my experience is different. The opposite to yours in fact.

I was scanned every 4 weeks after the 20 week scan as they thought I was having a small baby who might not be developing properly so they wanted to monitor me more closely.

She turned out to be 9lb 1oz at birth and definitely well developed. Now 4 months old and a mighty strong baby - trying to stand up!

Not developing properly my *rse!

Anyway don't worry too much about the baby being big. My friend had an 11lb baby last year. Natural birth (just gas & air) and not even stitches. Lucky girl is now back in a size 10 too!

Mine were wrong all the way though, told me she was fine, normal size. and out came a skinny little 5lb
Wouldnt worry too much.

i had a growth scan at 35 weeks...baby was estimated at 6 lbs, she was 7 lbs 8 when born, at exactly 40 weeks.....so didn;t gain an enormous amount in the last 5 weeks

another one who was told I would have a huge baby (DH was 10lbs+ so Iwas a bit nervous anyway!)

DS1 weighed in at a respectable 8lb13oz at 42 weeks

Having a baby is a very inexact science!
