Reassurance Scan at 6 Weeks - What to Expect?

Just that, really. My last period dates me at 8+3 but my Clear Blue test dates me at approx 6 weeks. I need to go for a reassurance scan on Friday. I think more for viability purposes.

What am I likely to see at 6 weeks? Will they be able to see if the pregnancy is viable on that?

Maybe and maybe not is the short answer. They should be able to see a sac which will tell them the pregnancy isn't ectopic or a pregnancy of unknown location (PUL). That is about the earliest a heartbeat can possibly be seen though and often a heartbeat isn't seen until later. Only a visible heartbeat with a bpm in the expected range can really confirm a viable, ongoing pregnancy.

Can you wait a week? At 7 weeks you're much more likely to see a heartbeat.

At 6 weeks you could expect to see a sac, fetal pole and heartbeat.

Thank you, ladies.

It's the hospital that's ordered it. My last period was 8+3 so they have to be careful in case that's accurate. My CB test dated me later. I have a genetic disorder I could potentially pass on which needs to be tested for between 10-12 weeks so the hospital called me this morning asking me to go in on Friday.

I had a scan at 6+3 and I could see a clear heart beat from an abdominal scan. They then did an internal scan where they could see the heart beat even more clearly. I've had this with both pregnancies xx

@Babyno2mamabear Thank you. Fingers crossed I may be able to see a bit then. Xx

The clear blue test dates from conception, but pregnancy is dated from LMP. So it sounds like you’re more likely to be around 8 weeks. You should see a strong heartbeat and a little wriggly bean. Good luck! Flowers

Is your period two weeks late, or four? Two weeks late would indicate six weeks pregnant, four would be eight weeks. Seeing a heartbeat is a bit of a crapshoot at 6 weeks, but it should be very clear at 8.

Yes the clear blue test is since conception so you need to add on the two weeks before that. So basically your dates and the clear blue both make you more than 8 weeks.

I've already added two weeks on to the clear blue. So my clear blue makes conception around 18th September, so 4 weeks. So I added 2 weeks on to make it 6.

But my last AF was 17th August. So it looks like I ovulated two weeks late based on the conception date suggested by CB.

I hope I am further along and closer to the 8 weeks so I can get a good heartbeat ❤️

Hi OP, have attached my scan pictures from 6 weeks and 9 weeks so you can get an idea of what to expect. At six weeks baby looked like a grain of rice, 3.6mm long but visible heartbeat. At 9 weeks we could see head, arms, legs etc.

I’m guessing yours will be somewhere between the two!

Thank you, @Darkstar4855! I cannot believe the difference in such a short space of time between the two. That's amazing! Xx
