How do you do a big shop with a baby?

I lay awake pondering this one last night! As you can tell I'm pregnant and a FTM!

So I'm wanting my baby to lay flat for the first 6 months as they advise. So how do you navigate a pram & a shopping trolley?! How do you improvise?

Online shopping.

Sling. Nice wrap sling and they can sleep.

Online groceries all the way for a big shop!

I never take children shopping if I can avoid it, and never for a big shop. Have it delivered.

Online shopping, DH did it or I did it while DH looked after the baby!

You can get trolley's with a section on top for a baby carseat. We used that because she usually fell asleep in the car . Or the little baby seat that lies flat (ish)

I agree with sling . It depends on your lifestyle and how you plan to pass your days but a slightly nag works very well for shopping.

Some supermarkets have trollies with a baby seat

Sling, easy peasy.

I done an online shop for the first few months too, was so much easier! Especially since dd was born in the winter and we weren't out as much as we would have been in the summer either!

Shop and scan staright into the bag hanging under the buggy.

Surely you don’t actually mean to keep your baby flat on its back for 6 months? You know they are okay to sit up with help, send limited time in car seats and should be encouraged to do yummy time to avoid flat head syndrome?

Anyway I used a sling, or the baby seat of a trolley, shopping with a baby is easy. Shopping with a toddler is not, we get it delivered now.

Either do online shop or as others say, the scan and shop is very handy if you would be able to fit it all on your buggy.

erh? flat for 6 months?? where an earth did you hear that?

restingbemusedface Sun 12-Aug-18 18:37:07

Good luck keeping a baby lying flat for 6 months?! You do realise most babies can sit by that point?

SoyDora Sun 12-Aug-18 18:38:14

Yes, my DD2 was sitting unaided at 5 months!

DrinkFeckArseGirls Sun 12-Aug-18 18:40:53

They try sitti g uo at 4 months (roughly).

GeorgeTheHippo Sun 12-Aug-18 18:42:09

They don't stay flat for six months. Mine was happiest looking over my shoulder when he was tiny.

FenellaMaxwellsPony Sun 12-Aug-18 18:47:10

I think you’ve misunderstood the lie flat advice. Maybe talk to your MW. But seriously, online shopping is your friend!

JennyBlueWren Sun 12-Aug-18 18:48:54

Online shop for big shop. Use scan and shop in tesco and balance basket on pram in morrisons.

I don't drive but on the odd time I had car seat at supermarket it didn't fit on the trolley.

WooYa Sun 12-Aug-18 18:56:33

I put DS in a sling or into a trolley with baby seat attached... I can't use the ones with car seat 'shelf' I'm too short grin

fruityb Sun 12-Aug-18 19:00:14

I put his car seat on the trolleys that were designed for that. We spent loads of time in supermarkets.

Laying flat for six months is a new one on me - how does that work when lots want to be upright! My son loved looking over my shoulder or being sat up against me.

Toomanyslippers Sun 12-Aug-18 19:01:37

The recommendations are to keep baby no longer than 2 hours in a car seat. I haven't made it up 🙄

Anyway, thanks to those that gave helpful comments!

I use a sling. If it's not a massive shop I have the basket on top of his carry cot pram. Otherwise DP is there to help x
